Bay Area Fellowship Program

The Bay Area Fellowship Program represents a radical departure from Headlands’ traditional modes of working with artists. The BAF will engage each artist as a full collaborator in designing and producing their own Fellowship engagement, bringing them into the Headlands community as thought partners while developing an experience tailored to their specific needs.

Fellowship Amount: 

$15,000 stipend

Tax burden on stipend and health coverage reimbursement (estimated at roughly $14,000)

$8,000 to support Fellowship activities designated by the Fellow

Additional available resources, such as studio space, convening space, staff time and expertise, and/or other resources as determined by Fellow in collaboration with Headlands

The inaugural Fellowship period is July 1 2021 – June 30, 2022. The Fellowship is fully expected to be renewed for a second year (July 1, 2022-June 30, 2023) by mutual agreement between Headlands and the Bay Area Fellow.

Emory University's Theater Department and Creative Writing Program: Job Announcement

Emory University's Theater Department and Creative Writing Program have announced a job search for a two-year Fellowship in Playwriting starting Fall 2021. 

Description: Beginning in Fall 2021, the Fellowship offers a $45,000 salary, health benefits, and $1000 annual travel fund.  

The Fellow will have a 2-1 teaching load, including both playwriting workshops and literature courses such as "Contemporary Drama." The Playwriting Fellow will give a public reading for the Creative Writing Reading Series, and work with Theater Emory and its Playwriting Center, including the contribution of a new play to the "Brave New Works" New Play Festival.  

Fellows may be asked to direct honors theses and/or other student mentoring activities.

A two-year commitment is assumed but the contract renewal for the second year is contingent on a positive review of the first year. Qualifications: Required:  MFA in Playwriting, or equivalent degree, within the past 8 years, and related teaching experience. Desired:  Promising record of production and/or play development in regional or national theater. Application Instructions:

Sundress Publications Now Accepting Applications for Editorial Internships

Sundress Publications is an entirely volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit publishing collective founded in 2000 that hosts a variety of online journals and publishes chapbooks, full-length collections, and literary anthologies in both print and digital formats. Sundress also publishes the annual Best of the Net Anthology, celebrating the best work published online, runs Poets in Pajamas, an online reading series, and the Gone Dark Archives, preserving online journals that have reached the end of their run.

The editorial internship position will run from July 1 to January 1, 2021. The editorial intern's responsibilities can include writing press releases, composing blog posts and promotional emails, proofreading manuscripts, assembling press kits, collating editorial data, research, managing spreadsheets, and more. The intern may also be responsible for writing copy, conducting interviews with Sundress authors, and promotion of catalog of titles.

 A keen eye for proofreading

Strong written communication skills

Familiarity with WordPress, Word, and the Google Suite

Ability to work under a deadline and multitask

Knowledge of and interest in contemporary literature a plus

This is a REMOTE internship with the team communicating primarily via email and text messages and is therefore not restricted to applicants living in any particular geographic area. Interns are asked to devote 10 hours per week to their assignments. This is an unpaid internship.

Shakespeare’s Sister Fellowship closes soon

A Room of Her Own Foundation's Shakespeare’s Sister Fellowship provides a for a female playwright to be supported by three institutions over the course of a year while she writes and develops a new play.

Female playwrights who have written at least one full-length play are invited to submit an excerpt (30 pages or less) to the first round.  See FAQ here.

David T. K. Wong Fellowship 2014-2015 Now Accepting Applications

The David T. K. Wong Creative Writing Fellowship is an annual award of £26,000 to enable a fiction writer who wants to write in English about the Far East to spend a year in the UK, at the University of East Anglia in Norwich.

The David T. K. Wong Creative Writing Fellowship is a unique and generous annual award of £26,000 to enable a fiction writer who wants to write in English about the Far East to spend a year in the UK, at the University of East Anglia in Norwich.

The Fellowship is named for its sponsor Mr David Wong, a retired Hong Kong businessman, who has also been a teacher, journalist and senior civil servant, and is a writer of fiction. The Fellowship was launched in 1997 and the first Fellow appointed from 1st October 1998.

The official David T.K. Applications for the Fellowship will be considered from established published as well as unpublished writers of any age and any nationality.   

The Fellowship will be awarded to a writer planning to produce a work of prose fiction in English which deals seriously with some aspect of life in the Far East (Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Peoples’ Republic of China, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam).  The successful candidate will be selected by a distinguished international panel. There will be no interviews, and candidates will be judged entirely on the quality and promise of their writing and the project they describe.

Fellows take up their appointments on 1st October each year.
