I had come back from a week away with my best friend in eastern Ontario to see her mom. I collected my mail from the neighbor and unlocked my door, walking in to a stale-smelling apartment that I called my own. I put my bags down in the hall and locked the door behind me, tossing the mail on the kitchen table.
Despite only wanting to forget about the trouble I'd had with Caty's mom over the week and relax, my eyes caught a medium-sized blue envelope in the strewn pile. I let out a huff of exhaustion. My shoes were off, finally.
Once I got a few minutes to myself and a joint in my system I felt better and began to sift through the mail I'd received since I'd been gone.
'Bills, bills, Cindy, and this blue one..'
I turned it around to see the return address and was not surprised. Cameron had sent me this letter. I jotted his address into a notebook and opened the letter, eager despite myself. Up until this point i had been upset at him for not having sent me any word.
The moment I unfolded the letter inside and a plane ticket fell onto the table, was the moment I knew why he's kept silent all this time. His letter started off sheepish and apologetic but by the end was the sincerest of love letters. He begged me to use the ticket and get on the plane that was leaving in nine day's time.
