luke firmly believed, almost to a fault, that family was more than the blood running through your veins. truthfully, he put far more effort into finding a family of his own than he did mending the one he was given. looking back, he could pinpoint many regrets. begging his mother to listen & shouting when she wouldn’t. closing his door in his father’s face when the man tried to walk the line between the stubborn members of his household. diving in a little too deep with alex, his found family, making the choice he felt was right, & diving right back out. ALL IN THE NAME OF MUSIC. music always seemed to steal first place from any other contender, didn’t it?
he had chosen to end things to protect what he couldn’t risk losing. he needed to keep the band in his life. he needed to keep alex in his life, and he needed to lessen the risk of losing any of this without the chance of reconciling. luke was always willing to risk everything for the life he’d chosen, but he just couldn’t risk losing it. so yes, that would be a regret, but he refused to let it affect his relationship with his best friend. narrow - minded to assume that he was solely in control of that decision.
luke hadn’t meant to intrude when he’d walked into the studio, but he was too intrigued by whatever had the blonde so focused to turn back around. luke took a few cautious steps toward alex as not to frighten him. ❛ hey, ❜ he calls quietly, feet automatically carrying him to the six - string leaning against the couch. it’s routine to swing it into his arms & lower himself to the couch. ❛ what are you doin’ in here? ❜
