Celebrated Family Literacy Day yesterday at the Canadian Native Friendship Centre here in #yeg. Tammy Rae Lamouche read from her upcoming picture book and gifted us with her Cree singalong colouring book. She even treated us to sing along of one of the songs. We were also lucky enough to hear traditional oral storytelling from Dene and Cree elders from the community. Our daughter in particular loved hearing about how the weasel got his winter coat and why the bear sleeps all winter. The evening ended with us being allowed to select a couple of books from their giant collection written and illustrated by first nations peoples from all over Turtle Island. We were so excited to find new titles to add to our home library.
