Dear followers,

If anyone here lives/lived/knows about living in Pakistan - I could use some of that information for my current writing endeavours! Actually, any other Muslim-majority country would also do if you feel that your experience might be relevant to my topic :)

Particularly: in my story (20% is sci-fi, rest is ~realism) there is this Muslim girl of 17, living in Islamabad, from a very traditional upper middle class family. I have mapped out her technical participation in the plot but I need real-life help in enriching her personality, putting some meat on the bones of her story, so to speak. I have only a basic idea that she is quite modern in the way she sees the world and her place in it, while being forced to obey the strict ways of her family and comply with expectations. Nothing breakthrough - she wants to learn and travel and meet people but her parents disapprove of her outspoken nature and see her more as a servant to the familial honour and reputation (marriage, kids, submission, etc). She loves her family and tries to balance out what she wants with what is wanted of her but it’s always a huge challenge. 

Basically, what I need are descriptive examples of domestic collision of generations in Pakistan, what it costs for young progressive women in the cities nowadays to stand up for their opinions and ideals, at the same time trying not to disrespect the traditional views of their families; how supported or held back by the society they are in doing so, stuff like that.

Stories, prompts, daily instances, all sorts of details would be highly appreciated. Also, if there’s some good reading recs on that matter you might share - fire away, I’d be even more so grateful ;)

Hey to answer anon's question, you can work as many hours and not receive benefits if you are an nonexempt worker. Usually nonexempt workers are on a wage and receive overtime for any hours worked over 40. Just look up the difference between an exempt and nonexempt worker.
