Alice in the Cities (1974) was written and directed by Wim Winders.  He was born Ernest Wilhelm Winders in Dusseldorf, and has 68 director credits, from eight shorts 1967-69, his first feature in 1969, to a 2018 documentary on Pope Francis.  Wim has zero entries among my best 1,001 movies, but four entries on the New York Times list of the 1,000 Greatest Films - Wings of Desire, Paris Texas, Kings of the Road, and Alice in the Cities.  His other notable films include The Goalie’s Anxiety at the Penalty Kick, The American Friend and Buena Vista Social Club.  His crowning achievement, for me, is his black and white long form video Teatro (1998) with Willie Nelson, released only on vhs.

Yella Rottlander and Rudiger Vogler arriving in New York City in Alice in the Cities (1974).  Rudiger has 207 acting credits, from a 1966 German tv movie, to a German film now in production.  Most of his credits are on German tv.  The only title I recognized was Sunshine (1999) with Ralph Fiennes, perhaps his only English language film.

Yella Rottlander as Alice in Alice in the Cities (1974).  Yella was born in West Germany and has four film credits.  Her first credit was a Wim Wenders 1973 feature.  She followed Alice in the Cities with six episodes of a 1976 German tv series, and a 1993 film also directed by Wim.
