I Love You Doctor Ho! n.145 “Old Lane Sign” by Archie Silver.
Lookit Here! I’m Wishin’ You A Happy New Ear!
Laying lifeless is Yellow Kid, a prominent character from the comic strip Hogan’s Alley, from which the name for the neighborhood was influenced and derived. The death of Yellow Kid symbolizes an end to making a novelty out of Hogan’s Alley and the black community that resided there. A rose grows next to Yellow Kid. As the official flower of Vancouver, the rose symbolizes life continuing to bloom as the spirit of the black community, a light of hope streaks through the smoke and ashes of its physical demolition. First section of the @hogans.alley mural for @vanmuralfest Special thanks to artists @mrscripsit @craigmostontattoos @suzyking.art @amira_at_large Swipe for details >>> #yellowkid #yellowjournalism #comicstrip #mascot #minstrel #canadianhistory #vancouverhistory #blackhistory #defaced #tokenism #novelty #hogansalley #vancouvermuralfestival #mural #artist #blackartist #blackart #canadianartist #vancouverartist #adoworks (at Vancouver, British Columbia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGBKBhcBPvv/?igshid=ydrmmvcdkf8z
Alex Grand & Jim Thompson interview Professor William H. Foster III, published comic book historian, former Eisner judge and award-winning museum exhibit curator on the evolving roles of African Americans in Comics. Video found on Interview playlist of the Comic Book Historians YouTube channel. William discusses his early forays into reading comics in the 1960s and 70s, then goes into a fascinating discussion of the portrayal and involvement of African American characters and creators in comics starting from the Yellow Kid, Krazy Kat, Ebony in Spirit, World's Finest, Sgt Fury, Fantastic Four's Black Panther, Luke Cage, Black Lightning, Black Vulcan, Fast Willie Jackson, Robert Crumb in Zap Comics, Storm of the X-Men, Sabre, Hypno Hustler, Milestone Comics, Trading Cards, Captain America, Thunder and ending into present day comic books. #LukeCage #YellowKid #BlackPanther #Milestone https://www.instagram.com/p/CFL7TAihjt8/?igshid=11nloh5k2a1v3
