First, VOTE! Second, you all (regardless of party lines) should vote YES on Amendment 4! What's Amendment 4? Well let me tell you: the amendment will ensure ex-felons (which happens to be majority people of color) who have served their jail time will have their voting rights restored. That means 1.4 millions Florida citizens will regain their right to vote! Right now, ex-felons have to wait SEVEN YEARS after they are released to even apply for voting restoration, then wait another TEN YEARS due to government backlog for the application to be processed, and current FL governor Rick Scott has denied the majority of these applications because the applicants didn't choose Republican as their party affiliation. THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN AND IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED! I'm asking all of you to vote Yes on Amendment 4, so we can do better as a state! We should be setting the trend, not following it. The Innocence Project became relevant to me after my son was falsely accused and the police tried to railroad him rather than investigate the obvious alternative. No, an arrest or conviction doesn’t equate to guilt, and even guilt doesn’t justify some of what our system does. If you’re sentenced to 3 years and serve them, why does Florida permanently deny you the right to vote? Answer: it’s a remnant of Jim Crow laws, and it needs to be eliminated. We can do that this November.
