Variations on a theme. Two shots, two printing approaches on each. I spent a little extra time in the darkroom to make prints that were different (the first example of each image) than the straight prints (the second example). Making straight prints is nice. Miya Folick for Yes Plz Weekly. This has happened before. I have a shot list, and I shoot it. Solid, environmental portraits that I’m super happy with, and that fulfill the client’s needs. If the opportunity is there toward the end of the shoot, I’ll try something weird. With Miya, the weird thing was dragging the shutter for 4-8 seconds and scribbling light behind her. It was fun, somewhat unpredictable, and a couple of the frames turned out great. I shot some on digi and some on film. There are times when the experiment falls flat and the shots never see the light of day. Aaaaaaand there are times when the client likes it so much, they put one on the cover. They even ran a contact sheet!! I’m super stoked about this one.
