Well that’s a wrap for my first KBF Trail event at Santee Cooper Lake. I had a solid 3rd place finish out of 125 anglers. I had the winning fish on, but it made a jump and threw the hook. It’s bound to happen once in a while, you can’t catch them all :) Prefishing I was catching all my fish on spinnerbaits and chatterbaits on the outside edges of the grass, but after the first two hours of the tournament without a fish in the boat, I knew I had to change things up. I saw a nice patch of matted grass and picked up my iRod 775 flipping stick. First cast got a 3 pounder, and it was game on for the next 2 hours. Midday for some reason the bite died, I scrambled to figure something else out but nada. Made another trip out to Dale Hollow Lake, this time with my friends Dave and Robert. We finally had some decent weather, which was a nice bonus to catching a few big smallmouth bass! The Damiki rig was working first thing in the morning, but then shut off. Kenny just moved out to TN from San Diego. On a guided trip on Piercy Priest today, he caught his first ever smallmouth bass.
