Normalcy. Was there even such a thing anymore? For the past few weeks, it seemed normalcy had sunk back into their lives. At least, a small portion of it. Riley sat next to her brother, her head resting on his shoulder, watching as the sun set down. Everyone prepared for dinner, with the few things people had gathered throughout the town. The fire before her seemed mesmerizing, she watched the flames dance with each other, creating red and yellow shades. It was beautiful. For some reason, Riley just felt exhausted. Perhaps it was the fact that she’d woken up early to tend the small garden she and a friend came up with, in hopes it would grow with the weeks and fruits and vegetables could be had. She missed the taste of apples and oranges. Everything seemed red and yellow. It was soothing.
A sigh left her lips, as a hand took her brother’s in hers. She stood up a little to smile at him, show him how content she was at the moment. Somehow, he always made things better. Her visions weren’t as horrid in his company, he always seemed to calm her in the best possible way. If it wasn’t for him, who knew where she would be? Probably already dead, just like their parents.
The image, she had to erase quickly - not wanting to think about it. She wanted the happy to last, it was all she wanted.
