✱》 dog days are over
{ ft. @yhlia }
it comes out of nowhere, a furry blessing that falls straight out of the sky and into his lap. except the puppy doesn’t really fall out of the sky – it comes from ong lia, who shows up at his door one day with an ebullient puppy, shoves it into his arms, and leaves before he can even fit in a word of protest. one week ago, he’d insist this was a terrible idea, fatally bound to fail. chae wonjun taking care of another living creature? with his current habits, he would probably end up killing a succulent (and potentially himself...), so a whole, living puppy? why would anyone entrust him with something so precious and cute? it’s beyond him too.
nevertheless he takes the puppy in, because it’s not like he has anywhere else he can put it. and quite frankly, it’s completely revolutionized his lifestyle in the short span of a week. he gets home and goes to bed on time, because there’s a puppy waiting anxiously for him back home. he gets up on time, because it’s hard to oversleep when there are playful yelps and yips in the air. he eats regularly timed meals, because he’s got to feed the puppy anyways. and he gets a fair share of sunshine and outdoor activity, because the rascal is so energetic that going out for routine walks is a necessity. wow, was this how regular, responsible humans lived their lives?
his weeklong tenure as a dog owner has finally reached its end, and lia is back to take the puppy back. he can’t tell if he’s relieved because it’s been an exhausting shift in lifestyle or if he’s disappointed because he’s going to miss his little friend. he’s grown rather fond of his furry companion, to the point that it sits snugly on his lap as he tries to conduct their regular guitar lesson. he’s not that serious of a teacher; doesn’t even consider himself to be a guitar expert, but it’s the casual nature of this arrangement that makes it work. besides, it was impossible to act super uptight with a puppy licking your face every other minute. “okay, now let’s work in the b min-- agh,” he’s cut off again as he gets a mouthful of fur, and despite how his nose scrunches up in dismay, a boyish grin hangs off his lips. he feigns a tired sigh, before speaking again. “thank god you’re here to take her back. it’s only been a week, and my entire closet is covered in fur.”
