Whenever I think about Wen Xiao and Yinglei, my heart hurts just a little bit (a Lot). Yinglei saw Wen Xiao as the Goddess. She was always the Baize Goddess to him, someone to whom he owed his loyalty and support no matter what. He was ready to help her do whatever she needed to fix the Baize token and then to help her save the Wilderness.

But Wen Xiao was human first. She was always human, and her emotions could never have been that sort of sanitised distance from everyone else. To her, Yinglei must have been a singular representation of everything she's fighting to protect, the Wilderness that she is meant to guard. To her, he must have also just been a Small Mountain God who acts like he's barely seventeen, who laughs and plays around with Bai Jiu, who really wants to become a wonderful chef in the Mortal Realm.

Do you ever think of the moment Yinglei died, and think of how Zhuo Yichen is holding his hand, but Wen Xiao is there, she's with him too, she's watching him die, knowing she, at that moment, was responsible for him? She was supposed to have protected people like him, people who so strongly and confidently put their faith in her, because she was the Baize Goddess, the protector of the Wilderness.

And she had to watch Yinglei die, and he never blamed her, but she must have blamed herself, because Mountain God Yinglei is not the only one who died, her little teammate Yinglei, who loved to cook and loved Bai Jiu and loved being complemented, he also died.

He never backed down from supporting zhuo yichen, even when pei sijing questioned him on the evidence he had. He believed in him, and he was willing to risk himself so many times, just to get that one piece of hope for zhuo yichen, no matter what it took.
