i think ONE's 'emptiness' is how the more sai and gen interact and the closer they become, the more we see how lonely they've been on their own up until that point where they meet!! and bc they're fulfilling each others daily lives now in ways they didnt even know could be filled, we can see how truly 'empty' things were before in comparison ;-; a bit of stretch maybe ha ha;;

Yeah ONE’s, “what I found interesting was how the emptiness between the two characters grows the more they interact,” line is still pretty curious. Because ‘emptiness grows’ can have multiple meanings/interpretations. But considering the context, how both characters’ establishing moments in the story introduced them with searing emptiness, loss and loneliness in their hearts (AND visibly reflected in their expressionless eyes), how both Murata and other staff members confirm beneficial growth/maturation, and how ONE considers their interactions together to be a highlight of the show, it only makes sense to me to view his words in a positive, healing context too. That their respective feelings of emptiness have begun to fill the more they interact. And it would be contradictory if he means the opposite of that. Like say, if he means the emptiness in their hearts only worsens over time, with their interactions detrimental to each other, then that…wouldn’t make any sense at all. If they just internalize their problems more, rather than gradually filling the holes in their hearts (another line from the director I believe). And YES, in ways they didn’t even know or expect could bring them fulfillment. :’) Saitama, once only seeking fulfillment from a challenging battle he could never find, and Genos once only seeking a conduit to gain power for a one-way ticket for revenge/closure against the Mad Cyborg (which he still has yet to find as well). Together, both of them now have other reasons to inspire them to get up in the morning. Comparing their before and after states (previously, as both the ‘lone hero’ and ‘lone cyborg’ respectively) and seeing the effect and influence their interactions have had on each other, I can only see their meeting as a positive (and very important!) development for both of them. :’3
