The final plenary for women leadership class

The plenary was about the primaries elections for presidential candidates and it was very interesting and i enjoyed it very much. The language that presidents used in the debate can shape the society of the United States. People have the freedom to talk in America and people on the social media are giving so much attention about the way they speak and the words they use.

Women leadership class

RToday is the last class for the women leadership class and i very much appreciate the help and knowledge from professor and mentor. I learned more about women power, women thoughts, feminist, etc. Before the women leadership class, i always consider feminism as a word that is negative and powerful, but now i consider myself as a feminist and i think women should and have to make a difference in the world. Feminist can not only be female, but also works for male. It is the advocacy for women rights, politics, social, economic equality to men. Women can talk about politics, sports and even many other things that people used to think only men can talk about. The most value thing i learned about in women leadership class is that women should be able to stand up for themselves and be aware of the fact they maybe discriminated against.

The income gap between male and female

The reading material from class 22 is about women leadership. And one of the article called “where are the women in global leadership” compares the unevenly income distributed and lack of opportunities to female and male from different countries as well as the number of women leaders in the world. According to the data, there are more male professors in the university, which means even from now, male have more priority in learning knowledge and accepting education. And there are more opportunities for male than female in the society, which means women have less chance of success and thus receiving lower income. Although there are less female leaders than male leaders in the world, female have more thoughts and power than before and the income gap between male and female is decreasing in recent decades.

The #4 PLEN

The fourth plenary was about intersex individuals. Intersex, according to the definition from the reading materials, is “a general term used for a variety of conditions in which a person is born with a reproductive or sexual anatomy that doesn't seem to fit the typical definitions of female or male.” People are born with gender and we cannot blame anyone if we are male, female or intersex. Although intersex individuals live in a miserable life in the young age because other people consider themselves as weird, they can still live happily and confidently in the rest of their lives. Great documentary and i really much enjoy it.

Transgender in Thailand (Class 10 additional sources)

Transgender is common in Thailand. And many people do the transgender surgery in Thailand due to the lack of money in the family. Some of the poor families in Thailand force their kids to do transgender surgery and make a living because they can trade for sex and perform dance. It is very cruel for poor kids in Thailand to do the surgery at the young age and people who have the surgery have a very low life expectancy. 

“The terms ‘transsexual’ or ‘transgender’ are rarely used in Thailand. Instead, “Kathoey” is a common term. It was originally used for hermaphrodites (human being who have both sexes- male and female), but nowadays it is mainly used to describe the transgender male.” -by David Bonnie  Aug 11, 2014

First PLEN

I was impressed by the living standards, lack of utilities and education in Bangladesh. Kaitlyn was like a celebrity when she went their because people from Bangladesh never see people from other countries, especially from America- the most developed country in the world. People are restricted in living there because they need to make a living and save money for the basic needs in their family. People are not only restricted in their food, education, utilities, money, but also restricted in a relationship. I can see the environment of the living standards in Bangladesh through the audio that we listened to. I can imaging the desks, walls and even the bathroom there at the school. But people DO have ambitious and motivation in learning, studying, which is also their goals their future career.
