YNES releases new single ‘Better Job’
English-Canadian YNES (pronounced Yin-es) was born in Coventry but has spent time living and working in Canada; with fans drawing lyrical comparisons from both the DIY post-punk scene in North America, to the more refined likes of Zuzu and Lauran Hibberd. From 80's synth to the 90's slack, YNES takes inspiration from a multitude of sources - all of which are staple in her eclectic yet honest sound.
"If you want, we'll all get better jobs - but you can throw away your DVDs, you can unsubscribe from Netflix, and delete your music library”...After Rishi Sunak’s comments late last year regarding the creative industry YNES uploaded a 30 second jingle to her social media titled ‘Better Jobs’; gaining 8k views and an interview on BBC. “Having witnessed the lack of support for the industry regarding Brexit, and just *everything* else at the moment - I decided to spend Lockdown 3 writing and recording a full track from home,” she says. “I feel this is paramount to talk about as artists. With little action happening in terms of actual support - it’s important to create solidarity. I know so many people who are feeling dejected and hopeless at the future of the arts, and I really believe that we need to stay passionate - together. I don’t see myself as an activist or a leader in any way, but by putting this out there I hope to inspire someone out there to stay angry and keep fighting. I really feel as though the song will resonate with people”

Oh...and a happy new year.
7, 12, and 37 for Ynes :)
7. What’s their “type”? What romantically attracts them to another person?
She's never really thought about it, but subconsciously she likes there to be a bit of a power dynamic between them, especially if she's the more dominant one. She doesn't necessarily have the healthiest views on attraction - she doesn't realise how badly she wants to be desired, and can get a little drunk on the power of it without taking either of their feelings into account.
12. What’s their position in their friend group? (leader, mom friend, chaos goblin, etc)
Chaos goblin, reluctant leader, antagonistic brat.
37. Are they a hopeless romantic, or is that stuff just not for them?
It's something she's surprised by liking, but it's not something she focuses on until it happens.
OC question meme for your Inquisitor :)
15, 50, 79
15. How good are they at conversation? Are they a small talk master, bad at initiating, etc?
Depends on what kind of conversation you're after. Bawdy, tavern talk or story-telling to fill the time on the road? She's a pro. But anything diplomatic or inspirational? She's the wrong girl. Josephine has her hands full.
50. Why would they be a good partner for a road trip?
For the most part, yes. She can hunt and cook, looks after herself, and can generally fill the long silences with entertaining enough small talk to not be a bore.
79. Do they have a good sleep schedule?
Her superpower is falling asleep anywhere and everywhere.
YNES releases new single ‘God's Little Punching Bag’
Coventry-based artist YNES releases her new single 'God's Little Punching Bag' today via GRRRL GROANNN.
YNES had this to say about the track: “Sonically, 'God's Little Punching Bag' mainly takes inspiration from the Britpop revival of the mid-to-late 2000's - whilst still maintaining it's own sense of DIY imperfection. This is appropriate to mention - because the track itself is about embracing the imperfect. It's three and a bit minutes of opening your arms and saying "do your f*cking worst".
“The outcasts have always been empowered, I just didn't know it then. I used to welcome pity for living a life less than perfect, and I embraced my fate as a basketcase. In whatever form the universe throws you a punch to the face, GLPB is the anthemic angst that shrugs "what, you expected me to cry?"

Coventry-based artist YNES releases her new single 'Used To Be'
English-Canadian YNES draws lyrical comparisons from both the DIY post-punk scene in the US, to the more refined likes of the UK’s Zuzu and Lauran Hibberd. From 80's synth to the 90's slack, YNES takes inspiration from a multitude of sources all of which are staple in her eclectic yet raw, honest sound.
New single 'Used To Be' echoes the once barely noticeable, but now all-encompassing feeling of shedding your youth in its entirety. YNES first meanders through the subtle changes we all experience growing up, before peaking at a claustrophobic and overwhelming sense of loss. 'Used To Be' invokes an emotion often stifled due to the uniformity of adult life, which is all the more reason to listen.
Self-motivation is a running theme in YNES' work-from organising and styling photo shoots for promo purposes, to designing flyers for independent gigs, to developing and maintaining a strong online identity. The vision is to make music, reach as many people to make a genuine connection with as possible, and hopefully build something that will more than suffice as a career to even the most traditional of family members.
