The sunlight filtering through the branches above warmed her skin softly, and Miri let her eyes drift closed on the next inhale. Quiet reigned in the small copse of trees she'd found while trying to get away from the smells and sights of despair that clung to the school like dark shadows. For hour's she'd been clearing up debris near the entrance to the grounds - with nothing better to do with her days, helping with the clean up effort seemed like the most valuable use of her time, no matter how boring and unnerving it was.
A gentle breeze drifted past, rustling the leaves and tugging playfully at her hair and the grass around her. It was so peaceful here - almost reminded her of... home. It was so comforting, Miri gave into the small urge to unfurl her wings - albeit tentatively, until they were splayed out as carefully as they could be in their damaged state on the grass either side of her. She smiled up at the bits of sky she could see, imagining herself flying once more, though it dropped as the soft crunch and breaking of twigs and leaves from the side drew her attention - someone coming. She hesitated briefly about sitting up, fighting down the sudden panic in her as she stayed sprawled as casually as she could.
