warnings: verbal harassment, physical fight, swearing, misogyny if you squint, anxiety, emotional distress
a/n: this was supposed to be a short drabble holy fuck. i got too deep into the plot of it.. enjoy a bit of protective alfie to lighten your evening. hope you enjoy x
the pub is already rammed by the time you all get there. proper friday night outing, bass thumping through your chest, people packed shoulder to shoulder at the bar. it's loud enough that you've got to lean into eachother just to talk.
you're squeezed into a booth with everyone, your legs tangled under the table and everyone is already half drunk. alfie is next to you with his strong arm slung lazily along the back of your seat, his fingers brushing your shoulder every now and then without even thinking about it.
chip's mid story, chatting absolute shit as usual and cal is egging him on.
"bro, you did not do that" cal laughs.
"i swear on my life" chip grins, pointing his glass at him.
you're already giggling, leaning slightly into alfie as you chime in,
"no, because i can actually see him doing that"
eventually alfie stands, draining the last of his drink.
"right, toilet. you comin'?" he says to chip.
"yeah, go on then."
he leans down slightly before he leaves, voice softer just for you.
"don't go anywhere."
you huff a small laugh.
"i'm literally sat down."
"still" he mutters, brushing your shoulder as he walks off.
the conversation doesn't slow down. if anything, it gets louder. someone brings up something embarrassing about one of the boys, and you're fully crying laughing now, unfiltered, not really thinking about anything except how much fun you're having.
that's when the shadow falls over the table.
"oi."
your laughter dies off a bit as you glance up.
a big bloke, not just tall but proper build like he's used to people moving out of his way. he's staring straight at you, expression already twisted like he's annoyed.
"mind keepin' it down a bit?" he says, but there's nothing polite about it.
cal is the first to respond.
"mate, it's a pub.. everyone's loud."
the guy doesn't even look at him.
"im talkin' to her." he says, nodding at you.
your stomach dips, but you keep your face neutral.
"we're just talking. it's not that deep."
he lets out a short, sharp laugh.
"not that deep? you've been screechin' your head off for the last ten minutes."
sabina, who's sat next to you frowns.
"alright, no need-"
"nah there is." he cuts in, stepping too close for your liking. his presence feels weird, like it's pressing on you.
"some people think they're the main character everywhere they go."
you blink at him, confused.
"what?"
"just sayin'. bit loud. bit.. stuck up, yeah?" he says, looking you up and down.
"you don't even know me." you say, not backing off.
"don't need to, i can tell enough."
cal shifts forward now, more firm, not wanting anything to go off whilst alife isn't there.
"alright, mate. you've said your piece. just leave it, yeah?"
but the guy is locked in on you now.
"nah, she's got a mouth on her clearly. go on then, say somethin' else."
your fingers tighten around your glass. you hate how your heart's beating faster, how aware you suddenly are of how close that random guy is.
"i don't need to say anything. you're the one who came over here acting like a prick."
there's a split second where the table goes completely still before his expression hardens.
"watch your fuckin' mouth. you're not as clever as you think you are." he snaps, leaning in, his face way too close to yours now.
and that's the moment alfie walks back in. he doesnt hear everything, but he sees the way you're sat stiff, eyes a bit glassy as a bloke leaned into your space like he belongs there. and his expression changes instantly.
"oi, what the fuck's goin' on?" he says, his tone stiff.
alfie doesn't even look at him first, he looks at you.
"are you alright?" he asks quietly, scanning your face.
you nod, but it's not convincing.
he turns to look at the guy right then.
"why are you in her face?" he asks, voice low.
"just tellin' her to pipe down. got a bit of an attitude problem, your girl." the guy scoffs.
"what did you say to her?" he asks again.
the guy rolls his shoulders, like he's gearing up.
"i said she's loud as fuck and thinks she's all that. someone had to say it."
"you don't talk to her like that," alfie says, taking a step closer.
"or what?" the guy pushes.
everyone's trying to calm alfie, but he just shurgs them off, his eyes locked on the guy.
"i said," he repeats, "you don't talk to her like that."
"what are you gonna do about it?"
alfie moves closer, puffing out his chest, before the bloke speaks again.
"maybe learn to control your stupid bitch, yeah?"
alfie's expression goes cold in a way that's actually a bit scary.
"what the fuck did you just say?" he asks.
"you heard me."
chip moves quickly now, grabbing alfie's arm but he steps forward anyway, right into the guy's face, forcing him back just a step.
"say it again." alfie says.
the next few seconds seem to move rapidly. the next thing you see is alfie thorwing a hard punch right onto the guy's face.
"alfie, come on... please." you say quietly, voice shaking.
he hears it.
"you're done here. walk away." he says to the guy.
eventually you all break it up and go home.
the house is quiet when you get back. the buzz from the pub has worn off too quick, adrenaline crashing hard, leaving everything a bit raw. alfie locks the door behind you, and glances over he shoulder at you straight away. you've barely said a word since you left.
"d'you want a drink or.. something to eat?" he starts, voice softer that earlier.
you shake your head.
"no i'm fine."
he clocks your mood immediately.
"alright, come 'ere."
you follow him into the bedroom, toeing your shoes off by the door, your movements slower than usual. everything feels off. like tour body's still holding onto something it doesn'y know how to drop.
you change in silence, back turned slightly. alfie does the same, quicker, eyes flicking to you every few seconds. by the time you get into bed, you're already lying on your side, facing away from him. and it's not dramatic or anything, you're just quiet.
alfie props himself up on one elbow behind you, watching your back rise and fall with slow breaths.
"hey.., you gonna talk to me or just ignore me all night?" there's no bite in it, just pure worry.
"i just.. don't really wanna talk." you say, your fingers curling slightly into the duvet.
he doesn't push you. he shifts closer and slides and arm around your waist, pulling you back into him, chest warm against your back. his hand settles on your stomach, thumb brushing lightly, absentminded.
for a while, neither of you say anything.
until you softly spoke.
"i like that you stood up for me.."
his eyes flick to yours.
"yeah?"
you nod. "yeah. just.. not the fighting part."
"yeah, fair." a small, tired smile tugging at his mouth.
you shift closer into him without thinking, pressing your face into his chest. he exhales softly, one hand coming up to the back of your head, holding you there.
"c'mere." he murmurs.
after a bit, your voice comes out again, small against his shirt.
"was i actually that loud?"
"are you takin' the piss?" he says, tipping his head down slightly, trying to catch your eye.
"don't let some random bastard make you second guess yourself like that, girl. not happenin'."
"okay.." you say, relaxing a bit.
"get some sleep baby." he says, pressing a light kiss to the top of your head. "i love you."
"i love you too alf."

𝑵𝑼𝑹𝑺𝑬𝑹𝒀~𝒂.𝒃𝒖𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆𖦊
The morning feels way too big for such a small moment.
Tiny shoes by the door.
A little backpack that looks oversized on her.
A coat she keeps trying to take off.
And right in the middle of it,
Lily.
Clinging.
“I don’t wanna go…” she mumbles, face buried into Alfie’s hoodie.
He immediately tightens his hold.
“…you know what, that’s fair,” he mutters. “We can stay home. I’m okay with that.”
From across the room, Reader turns slowly
arms folded.
“No.”
Alfie looks at you like you’ve betrayed him.
“Excuse me?”
“She’s going,” You say simply, walking over.
Lily whines slightly, gripping Alfie tighter.
“I don’t like it…”
“Lils you haven’t even been yet,” You say gently, tucking her hair behind her ear.
Lily peeks out from Alfie’s neck, eyes watery.
“…what if it’s scary?”
Alfie nods immediately.
“Yeah, what if it is scary? Exactly-great point-let’s not go-”
“Alfie,” You cut in.
He stops.
“…yeah?”
“You’re making it worse.”
He pauses, then sighs.
“…yeah, alright.”
You soften, reaching out, brushing Lily’s soft cheek with your finger.
“Hey… it’s just like playtime, yeah?” You say softly. “Toys, other kids, colouring…”
Lily sniffles.
“…really?”
“Really.”
“And if you don’t like it, we come back and tell Daddy he was right,” You add with a small smile.
Alfie perks up instantly.
“See? That’s a great plan.”
You give him another look.
“If she doesn’t like it.”
“…right. Yeah. Of course.”
Lily hesitates, then slowly loosens her grip.
“…you stay?”
Alfie puts her down softly, in front of her now, hands on her little arms.
“I won’t be far, yeah?” he says softly. “And I’ll come back and get you.”
“…promise?”
“Promise.”
She studies his face, like she’s making sure.
Then nods slightly.
“…okay…”
He smiles softly.
“Good girl.”
They get her shoes on, bag on her back, which she immediately tries to take off again.
“No-baby, keep it on,” You laugh gently.
“I don’t like it!”
“You’ll need it.”
“Mummy I don’t-”
“Lily.”
She pauses.
You raise a brow.
“…okay…”
Alfie watches all of this, completely conflicted.
“…we could still just stay here,” he mutters as they head out the door.
“No,” You say.
“…just saying, option’s there.”
“No.”
The walk is slow.
Lily holding Alfie’s hand tightly on one side, Readers on the other.
Every few steps she squeezes a little tighter. By the time they reach the nursery gates, she’s fully clinging again.
“I don’t wanna go…” she whispers.
Alfie crouches down again, heart breaking a little.
“I know, baby…”
Reader kneels too, gentler now.
“Hey… look at me.”
Lily does.
“You’re brave, yeah?”
“…yeah…”
“And you’re going to have fun.”
“…okay…”
“And we’ll be right here after.”
Lily nods
slowly.
Reluctantly.
The teacher steps over, smiling warmly.
“Hi, Lily! Are you ready?”
Lily shakes her head instantly.
“No.”
The teacher laughs softly.
“That’s okay. We’ll take it slow.”
Alfie looks like he might actually cry.
“I don’t like this,” he mutters.
Reader nudges him.
“She’s fine.”
“Well I’m not fine.”
Lily clings one last time, hugging Alfie tight.
“Daddy…”
He hugs her back just as tight.
“I’ve got you… go on, yeah? I’ll be right here.”
She pulls back, hesitates, then slowly takes the teacher’s hand.
Tiny fingers, letting go of Alfie’s.
He freezes.
Watching her walk inside.
“…she’s gone,” he whispers.
Reader crosses her arms.
“She’s in nursery, not moving countries.”
He looks at you, highly offended.
“Still.”
They stand there for a second.
Quiet.
Alfie exhales, a shaky laugh leaving him.
And even though it was hard, even though there were tears.
she did it.
Their tiny girl.
Braver than she thought.
Even if her daddy wasn’t.
The pickup is supposed to be the best part.
Running hugs.
Big smiles.
Stories about new friends and colouring and snacks.
That’s what Alfie is expecting when he gets to the gate.
What he gets instead, is quiet.
Lily walks out slowly, little backpack slipping off one shoulder, head down.
No running.
No “Daddy!”
Just… quiet.
Alfie’s smile fades instantly.
“…hey, baby,” he says softly, crouching down. “How was it?”
She doesn’t answer.
Just walks straight into him, arms wrapping around his neck, face hiding in his shoulder.
Clinging. Tight.
His heart drops.
“Hey… hey…” he murmurs, holding her properly now. “What’s wrong?”
“…didn’t like it…” she whispers.
That’s it.
That’s all it takes.
He closes his eyes briefly, jaw tightening.
“…yeah?” he says gently. “That’s okay. You don’t have to like it straight away.”
She shakes her head slightly against him.
“…was loud…”
“Too loud?”
A small nod.
“…and no one wanted, play with me…”
His chest aches a bit at that.
“Oh, baby…”
He stands slowly, keeping her close.
“Come on, yeah? Let’s go see Mummy.”
That gets the tiniest reaction.
“…Mummy?”
“Yeah,” he nods. “She’s filming.”
That’s enough.
She doesn’t perk up, but she holds onto him a little tighter.
The drive is quiet.
No singing.
No chatter.
Just Lily in the back, looking out the window, silent.
Alfie keeps glancing at her in the mirror.
He hates it.
Absolutely hates it.
“…we don’t have to go again tomorrow,” he says suddenly.
She looks up slightly.
“…really?”
“Yeah,” he says. “We’ll figure it out.”
She nods faintly, but doesn’t say anything else.
And that’s what gets him.
Because she’s usually never this quiet.
When they arrive at the studio, it’s the opposite energy.
Laughter.
Noise.
People talking over each other.
Inside, Reader is mid laugh, sat with Tobi, Ethan, Simon and Josh, or as Lily proudly calls them-
“my cool kunckles.”
“…and I’m telling you, that goal, Mate!-“ Ethan starts,
The door opens.
Reader looks up instantly.
Spots them.
Your face lights up, then pauses.
Because you see Lily.
And something’s off.
“…Lil?” you say, standing slightly.
The boys follow her gaze.
“Lily!” Tobi smiles.
“Come here, little legend-” Ethan adds.
But Lily doesn’t move.
She just buries her face back into Alfie’s shoulder.
Your expression softens immediately.
“Hey…” you walk over, gentle now. “What’s wrong?”
Alfie shakes his head slightly.
“…she didn’t have a good day.”
That’s all it takes.
Reader steps closer, hand resting lightly on Lily’s back.
“Hey… look at me, yeah?”
Lily peeks up slowly, eyes a little watery again.
“…Mummy…”
Reader smiles softly.
“I’ve got you.”
Lily reaches for her, arms stretching out.
Alfie hands her over carefully.
She melts straight into you, holding tight.
“Didn’t like it…” she mumbles.
You rock her gently, kissing the side of her head.
“That’s okay,” you murmur. “I didn’t like my nursery very much.”
Behind them, the boys have gone quiet.
Even Ethan.
Tobi leans slightly toward Alfie.
“…she alright?”
“Yeah,” Alfie nods. “Just… not her usual self.”
Simon watches Lily, frowning slightly.
“She’s usually running about in here.”
“Yeah,” Alfie says quietly. “I know.”
Josh, who’s been hovering nearby, mutters under his breath,
“…don’t like seeing her like that.”
Reader adjusts Lily slightly on her hip, still holding her close.
“Do you wanna sit with me?” you ask softly.
Lily nods.
“…yeah…”
Reader sits back down, Lily curled into her.
The “cool kunckles” keep their voices softer now, less chaotic.
Ethan leans over slightly.
“Hey…trouble.”
No response.
“…I’ve got snacks,” he adds.
That gets the smallest glance.
“…what snacks?”
Progress.
Ethan grins.
“Elite ones.”
Lily hesitates, still a bit sad, but curious.
And that’s enough.
Ethan slowly reaches his hand out, open, waiting, not forcing it.
“How about…” he says gently, “we go sit over there, yeah? We can FaceTime Auntie Faith and talk to Olive.”
That lands.
Lily’s eyes flicker.
“…Olive?”
“Yeah,” he nods. “Bet she’d wanna see you.”
A small pause.
Then, very slowly, Lily lets go of Reader with one hand.
Tiny fingers reaching out.
She takes his.
Soft. Careful.
Reader watches, smiling gently.
“Go on,” you whisper. “I’m right here.”
Lily nods faintly, still holding Ethan’s hand, letting him guide her off Reader’s lap.
He walks slow, matching her pace, like it’s the most normal thing in the world.
No pressure.
Just easy.
“Right,” he says quietly as they sit down. “Snack first or call first?”
“…snack,” she mumbles.
“Good choice,” he grins.
Behind them, Alfie watches it all.
Arms folded, but his expression soft now.
Relieved. Proud.
A little emotional, if he’s honest.
Simon nudges him lightly.
“…she’s alright.”
Alfie nods, eyes still on Lily, now sitting beside Ethan, snack in hand, a little closer to herself again.
“Yeah,” he says quietly.
He exhales, a small smile finally settling in.
“…she’s got good people around her.”
Tobi hums softly, genuine smile on his face.
“She’s what makes us good people.”
Across the room, Lily glances back once, checking.
Alfie gives her a small nod.
“I’m here.”
She nods back.
Then looks up at Ethan, a bit more comfortable now.
“…call Olive?”
“Yeah,” he smiles. “Let’s do it.”
And just like that, bit by bit, she finds her way back again.
And Alfie stands there, watching it all, thinking the same thing over and over,
how lucky she is.
How lucky they all are.
To have this.
Office Romance? - AB
Summary - Your the new editor in the Fella's studio and things get interesting..
Content- Fluff and only fluff lol
Author Notes- This is the first time I've written in years im scared. Going to throw my phone across the room once ive hit post.
Enjoy?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since you'd started working as an editor for The Fella's you'd noticed Alfie. I mean he was hard not to notice, his height, his broad build. You don't think you'd ever spoken a word to him but you'd caught his eye a few times across the office building.
Alfie had notice you, he'd be lying if he tried to say he hadn't. The pretty little girl sat at behind her desk was definitely a new addition to the office that caught his eye. He'd never formally introduced himself because he didn't know what he'd even say "Hey I'm Alfie"??? ...right and.
At the end of one pod episode after the filming was done he managed to bring you up casually.
"Who's the new girl in the office?' He asked Cal and Chip while looking at his phone trying his best to act nonchalant.
"What reader?" Chip answered, the pair of them shooting each other a look.
"Oh is that her name, didn't know we were hiring new people"
Cal raised an eyebrow "Bit of you is she?" he laughed
"Nah, nah I just wondered"
Cal and chip continued to look at each other suspiciously.
"Bit of a rocket no?" Chip fished for information "I'll introduce you"
"No you'll make it weird! I just wanted to know who she was I wasn't saying I wanted to marry the gyal" Alfie replied, quickly trying to shut the conversation down.
"Yeh okay" Cal and Chip both said clearly not buying it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next day you were sat at ur desk as per when Chip came striding over to you, a mischievous look in his eye.
"Oi you know Alfie right?"
"Alfie as in pod Alfie? Yes obviously I know who that is" You say giving an amused but confused look.
Of course you knew Alfie, you'd edited videos of the pod for the past month flat out. Meaning you'd starred at his stupidly handsome face on your monitor and listened to his voice through your headphones basically everyday for the past four weeks. You'd watched him across the room on numerous occasions wondering where the hell The Fella's found a man that attractive. You'd seen him sit on the sofa like he owned the place, manspreading. And the manspreading, my god, you'd had too many thoughts about what you'd do between those legs. But this was all in your head, a simple work place crush to keep yourself entrained 9-5 there was nothing serious about it.
"Nahh I mean like you guys spoken before?"
"No... why?" You reply narrowing your eyes at him, pushing back ur desk chair to look at him fully.
You felt slightly embarrassed that you'd been fantasying about a guy you'd never interacted with. But maybe that made it all the better, the mystery of it, the made up office romance you had running through your head. Plus you had no real reason to speak to him, Cal and Chip had hired you it was officially their business Alfie was a co-host (you told yourself this to make you feel better).
"Well, he fancies you so thought I'd help him shoot his shot this is his number" Chip lays down a post-it note on your desk where in his messy handwriting he'd scrawled down you assumed to be Alfie Buttles phone number.
You glanced at the post then back to Chip trying to take in his words.
"Is this like a prank?"
"What no, I'm just helping my boy out" Chip replies defensively
"Well that's flattering but not a chance in hell am I making the first move, the mans not even introduced himself to me"
Chip sighs defeatedly "Well, I cant make you but just think about it yeh?" he smirks and raises an eyebrow before sauntering off leaving you rather confused.
You glance down at the post-it note on your desk. You pick it up, you debate bining it.
Instead u stick it to ur desk out of the way but still within reach. Text him? What would I even say? Hey I'm reader we've never met but I've just been admiring you across the office. You think to yourself then let out a small laugh shaking your head before you continue working, letting the thought go.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back in the filming room the lads are chilling after finishing another podcast recording.
"I gave reader your number by the way" Chip drops into conversation casually.
There's a pause of silence in the room as the words register.
Cal starts laughing.
"You did what? Are you fucking with me?" Alfie replies not entirely sure if Chip is trying to wind him up or not "I mentioned her once there's no way you've done that"
"Whaaat I just knew you'd never shoot ur shot I took innovative for you" Chip shrugs.
"You fucker" Cal laughs
"Oh my god" Alfies face flushes in embarrassment realising this wasn't just a joke "What did you even say to her? I bet you made me sound like a right creep"
"Nah bro chill all I said is Alfie fancies you here's his number, balls in your court type vibe, nothing to intense"
"Oh my god" Alfie repeats putting his face in his hands "Are we in high school?! I didn't even say I fancied her"
"Oh shut up it was written all over your face" Chip bites back
Alfie sighs, trying to figure out how he's going to do damage control on this situation.
"Fuck sakes, I'm going to have to go speak to her or something before she goes to HR on us"
"Alfie we are HR the company is not that big" Cal responds looking amused by the situation
"Not the point!" Alfie grumbles "Can't make the poor girl feel uncomfortable in her own work place'
Alfie gets up and leaves the room heading for the office. He paces up and down by the door trying to figure out what to say. How on earth was he going to explain he had no part in this and actually make it sound believable.
"Fuck it" He muttered to himself pushing the office door open.
He almost freezes as he walked in, seeing you right there in your desk and he was about to have to walk up to you and explain why Chip had been hitting on you on his behalf.
You glance up from your monitor spotting Alfie awkwardly strolling in. Your eyes immediately averted, wondering if he knew what chip had done. You quickly hid the post-it note in case he walked past.
When you looked up again you realised he was walking right towards you, you felt your throat go dry.
He stopped abruptly next to your chair "Hey, um" he didn't know what to say, he wasn't even looking at you he was staring down at his shoes.
"Hello" You replied with a smile trying to behave as normal as possible.
Alfie sighed brushing his hands through his hair before looking up from his shoes to you "Look I'm really sorry about what chip said, I have no idea where that came from and I hope it hasn't uh made you feel uncomfortable or anything" He stammers out eyes darting around the room. He feels like a massive awkward idiot.
You feel a tiny bit of disappointment, so he doesn't fancy me, you think. You brush the thought away get a grip reader.
"Oh no worries I know what you guys are like always messing with each other" You reply with a fake smile.
Alfie hovers awkwardly not really know what to do with himself or say. He keeps glancing at your face and then around the room.
"What exactly did he say to you?
You let out a small awkward laugh "He just said you fancied me and gave me your number, said he was doing you a favour or something"
"Jesus" Alfie laughs rubbing his face in embarrassment "That guy needs to get a life seriously, always doing the dumbest shit for no reason; I never even said that"
A flicker of disappointment must have flashed over your face because he quickly retreats his words "Not like your not.. you know" you stare at him as he talks not helping him out of this situation at all, slightly amused by his awkward behaviour for someone who seems so confident online.
"Not like you're not attractive, I just don't go about hitting on people in our place of work you know" He laughs awkwardly.
Not like you're not attractive. The words repeat in your brain a few times like your checking if you heard that right.
You laugh softly "I'm confused are you happy or unhappy he gave me your number?" Your reply, your voice has a slightly flirty edge to it, you know it's risky but for a man that attractive you'll take the risk.
He freezes not expecting that response, he was more expecting you to be offended that someone was trying to hit on you in work.
He looks back at you like he's analysing you, his eyes exploring your facial features; it makes you slightly nervous. You suddenly regret your decision to be bold.
"Tell you what" he says slowly like he's debating whether this is a good idea "To you know apologise for the weirdness and what not, why don't we go out for a drink tonight? If you're not uh busy or anything" he finishes the sentence looking a lot more nervous than when he walked over here and that is saying something.
You blink a couple times, did-did he just ask you on a date?
Your pause makes him panic and he adds "We don't have to if it would be weird or whatever"
You smile reassuringly at him "Yeh sure why not" you try to play cool despite your internal excitement.
"Cool I mean you've got my number now so text me I guess" He laughs and walks off, he is also trying to play cool, he has not idea where that came from but he is proud of himself.
As you watch him walk back out you let a huge smile creep onto your face.
You grab your phone from your back texting your best friend.
"You know the hot guy I told you about from the office."
She replies almost instantly "Yeah..?!"
"I think he's just asked me on a date... TONIGHT"
You've given up acting composed now you know he's got so your grinning down at your phone typing rapidly.
"Fuck off now?!" She texts back "Told you you were hot shit"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He walks back into the recording room and cal and chip look at him. Chip looks slightly nervous that he might have royally pissed him off.
"Well, how'd it go? Do we need to get a HR team?" Cal jokes.
"I've got a date"
"What?!" Chip almost squeals jumping up and down on his chair "gosh I'm basically cupid"
"Don't make it weird bro" Alfie rolls his eyes "I don't know how I pulled that off but yeh"
"Fucking hell the lads finally got game" Cal says clapping him on the back
"I said don't make it weird"
"I knew you fancied her AB, can read you like a book" Chip looks far too proud of himself.
Alfie shakes his head laughing "Chip this was all me you're not taking credit. Plus its just a drink its not that deep we might not even like each other"
Chip doesn't come down from his excitement. Cal raises an eyebrow at Alfie. But they both decide its probably best to leave it and not poke the bear anymore, we all know he loves to nimble.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you finally get home from your day in the office you shoot Alfie a text.
"Still on for that drink?'
You try to keep it simply and casually, like you're not that bothered but deep down you're really hoping his says yes.
You put your phone down and jump in the shower, not wanting to sit there pining over whether he answers or not. By the time you get out the shower you have multiple notifications from him.
"Hey yeh if you're still down?"
"Meet you at the bar down town in an hour?"
You smile, secretly relived he actually wants to do this.
"Yeh sure" you reply.
You get ready picking out an outfit which doesn't scream Im trying to impress you but is also cute enough that you'll feel nice.
Before you know it you're hoping out the uber and Alfie Buttle is there waiting for you stood on the pavement.
"Hey" He says softly.
You follow him inside and you both sit in a booth in the quieter part of the bar.
There's an awkward tension in the air, like neither of you really know what to say.
You break the silence "Look you didn't have to ask me out cause you felt bad".
Alfie looks up from the menu with a shocked expression "Wha-t no that's not why I asked you to go for a drink" he shakes his head then continues "I um I genuinely had noticed you in the office, that's how this whole thing came about cause I asked the lads who you were" his flash is blushing slightly.
"Oh" you let out a sigh of relief "Well I'd noticed you too"
He looks surprised but smiles "I'm shit at this sorry I don't think I've ever asked a girl out in my life" he laughs the awkward tension completely diminishes leaving the two of you to actually enjoy the evening.
You laugh, joke and actually get to know each other. He seems genuinely interested in who you and is a lot more calm and relaxed than he is in front of the camera.
You find yourself enjoying the evening a lot more than you thought you would. The thought slips into your mind that this is going to be much more than an office crush.
