WHEN ELIZABETH WAS FOURTEEN , she moved to hawkins , a strange and quiet girl with bandages around her wrists and a strong sense of protection for her brother . she faded into the background easily , focusing on her studies and photography to keep to herself . she’s a good girl that never wants to be involved with anything life threatening again .
IN THE FIRST WEEK OF NOVEMBER IN 1983, will byers goes missing and elizabeth rushes home to check on her brother . the two of them can sense something is wrong and crack down on checking on each other . they go straight to and from school and if they go anywhere they tell multiple people . fear fills them that it might be a repeat of those summers all those years ago . for the first time in over a year , elizabeth has a nightmare of that terrifying summer .
WILL IS LUCKILY FOUND , the sense of unease disappearing just as quickly as it appeared . elizabeth goes back to her regular life , but not without noticing that the town of hawkins , much like derry seems to hold it’s secrets and some people seem to know those secrets better than others .
JUMP AHEAD TWO YEARS , it’s 1985 and elizabeth has landed herself a job at sam goody in starcourt mall . her breaks are often frequented in scoops ahoy , enjoying the cool air conditioning and the chats with robin , a girl she recognized from her french class . things seemed perfect , almost too perfect .
IT’S AT THE START OF JULY WHEN HER BOSS GIVES HER THE KEYS , acting weird but always giving her a closing shift , something she didn’t entirely mind . one day as she’s closing up she happens to hear talk of secret russian codes and music . this is the moment when the girl from before , strong and ready to defend her friends reappears and pulls elizabeth into a spiral of confronting russians and more sinister things .
EVEN WHEN IT’S FACING A SCARY MINDFLAYER , elizabeth seems all to levelheaded and calm and if someone prodded her enough about it , she’d open up about her experiences in derry . after the events , she’s a lot more calmer , talkative but maybe that’s just the shared trauma playing it’s part .
