L’OFFICIEL Schweiz/Suisse, November-issue 2016 Photography by Laetitia Hotte
New fonts. Totentanz Regular & Slanted. The roman version is inspired by stone carvings found in Paris' catacombs and graveyards. The slanted version is a new experimentation moving away from the calligraphic approach toward a constructed drawing. Pictures and texts shown here are the surviving pieces of a 43-part 'Dance of Death Cycle' that the Fonderie Haas offered for sale in the form of printing blocks in the mid-19th. The engravings are by an unknown engraver, but are clearly inspired by Matthäus Merian the Elder and his work on the famous Basel Dance of Death that can be found on the walls of the Prediger cloister. #newfonts #totentanz #yoannminet
