Never say never
Never say never - When I come to my 30s, I learn one important thing from my past journey is “Never say you don’t do something” and usually the thing you said you don’t do will finally be the answer. In the past, I said to myself that I’ll never quit a job without finding another one and now I broke my promise. I also said to myself I’ll never be a full-time yoga teacher because I have a secured job and later I broke my promise too. They are just a few of my life examples teaching me “Never say never”. You can never imagine what your life will be and it’s just you live your life once. Faith knocks your door to allow yourself to explore your potential. I would say it’s not the good timing for your to try at this moment.
Generalising this belief to my yoga practice, you may tell yourself you can’t do some pose in the past because of not strong or not flexible enough. I will treat these as not a good timing at this moment to try on the pose without sufficient foundation. Starting to practice from the basics, you will develop your flexibility and strength preparing yourself to the pose you said you can’t do. “Rome cannot be built in a day” - it’s always true and it may takes months or years of practice in order to build your own temple. For example, many of you may say in the beginning you cannot do lotus pose and so did I when I was in yoga teacher training. I eased myself by saying to myself that everybody has some pose which he or she cannot do. Until one day, I suddenly realise I can do this pose. My highlight is not focus on any particular asana, however your attitude towards practice and your life.
In Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), there is an interesting test to illustrate this belief. Don’t think of a red apple! Tell me what appears in your mind and is it a red apple? When we program our brain an object you don’t want to think, the object will usually appears instead. Now, you know how to program your mind by “Never say never”. Right?
