Half yoga squat / Ardha Malasana is a hip opener that helps to stretch the lower back, hamstrings legs and the hip flexors while strengthening the ankles and core muscles. Gently lifting the pelvic floor will help to support the spine. While hip openers can help with strength, flexibility and back pain there’s other benefits on a subtle level. We hold stress and negative emotions in the pelvis such as fear guilt and sadness. Opening the hips gives us more access to freedom in the body for us to express ourselves emotionally, creatively, physically, reproductively/sexually and spiritually. Breathing all the way to Swadhisthana Chakra and moving the hips will help release stored negative emotion and bring balance and joy back to the body and mind.
