Zoeya quietly rested by her friend's bedside, while outside the scientists rushed around them. She paid no mind, only ran her thumb softly over Martyn's still hand as he lay motionless. After a while, soft words penetrated the silence of the room.
"Martyn, I know it's hard for you, and I know it's really hard to fight. The scientists keep doing... you know. Stuff. And it must be really peaceful, wherever you are, I guess. But, well, you're my friend, and I'd--I'd really like for you to wake up soon." Her voice wavered a bit, and a lump caught in her throat as a few small droplets dotted the sheet of the bed. "Please, please wake up."
