Yohji Kato
by: Yohji Kato
Yohji Kato, pencil and watercolors. 2015.
Apart from the beautiful textures the use color is what stands out in this landscape drawing. The few sprinkled spots create a focal point, depth and perfectly fit into the composition.
Yohji Kato, Kii Peninsula, Japan. 2015. Pen.
The village is wonderfully framed between two dark layers - the front layer of pines and the back layer of forests, which makes it stand out as the main element in the drawing. The dark values are created through densifying the lines. Because of that the drawing, even in the dark areas, remains light and not heavy.
