An open question to the Pokemon fandom
So I've been toying with the idea of maybe making my own Pokemon game. One of the things I'm considering while planning this hypothetical game is adding some new types. Among the new types I've considered one of them is meant to be a sort of "demonic" or "magic" type. You remember that "???" type that only applied to one move (curse) until Gen V? The idea is making it a supernatural type that defies all natural order and physical laws, so it would be super-effective against normal-types and other supernatural types such as ghost and fairy. However it would also be weak against Dragon types, among other things, thus creating a nice little triad of weakness ( "???"<Fairy<Dragon<"???"). The problem is I'm not sure what to name this type. I've narrowed it down to two options and I'd like some help deciding between the two:
Yokai type: I admit my understanding of Japanese folklore is practically nonexistent so I apologize if I misinterpret this, but I'm given to understand that Yokai are just creatures that cause all sorts of mischief and mayhem. That's more in the spirit of what I had in mind for this magical type and it would fit better with the whole "folklore" theme along with Dragon and Fairy types.
Eldritch type: This type would be based on the monsters of HP Lovecraft, which are basically giant monsters from unknown planets and dimensions that defy all laws of physics to the point where some cause mortal men to go insane. This type seems like it would be more fitting for something that was once known as "???" and add a fresh new dark feeling to the franchise, especially since I plan on making my hypothetical fan game darker than the standard games. I only have one nitpick problem with this type: Giratina, a pokemon who is basically a Lovecraftian monster-god of it's own dimension, would probably have to be retyped (although maybe his normal form could still be ghost/dragon while his origin form could be eldritch/dragon)?
So those are the two options I'm considering. Again, I might not even make this game, but I'm just kind of curious what people would be more interested in seeing for a "magical" type. So which would you want, Yokai type or Eldritch type?
