Songs that make me think of my girlfriend Yolanda: an appreciation post in the form of songs!
I'm not great at understanding lyrics, so I'm bound to get some stuff wrong. This is all my interpretation!
1: Cicada - Good kid
This song is one of my current favorites. It's about someone in love with someone, but feeling insecure about actually deserving to be in their life.
"You're everything I'm thinking of, from time to time and dust to dust, whenever there's a lul between the void, you fill the silence"
She's on my mind all the time. Whenever my mind is idle, it drifts to her.
"I could be, I suppose, someone you should get to know"
My favorite lyric. It expresses my insecurity of feeling worth being in her life, but my desire to be in it. From the start, she seemed like someone I wanted to know, and now that I'm with her, I'm glad we got to know each other.
2: Smitten - Leanna Firestone
This whole song to me is about loving the imperfections. It has so many lyrics about things that people sometimes don't like or find annoying about their partner, but it expresses appreciation for those aspects. Most of these don't apply to Yolanda, but there are still aspects of her that could be unattractive to some, but I appreciate anyway.
"I think I must be doing something right to deserve you in my life so I thank God and my lucky stars alike, cuz I don't know what I did or how I did it but I did something right"
I don't know what I did to make Yolanda like me, but I'm so happy that I did it. I might not understand what she sees in me, but she sees something, and I need to take it in stride.
"I'm helplessly and hopelessly smitten and usually I'd be to scared to admit it, but you make me the best kind of nervous, pretty sure you do that shit on purpose"
I've rarely fallen this hard for someone, so when I knew I was in love with her, I tried my best to tell her. I'm not sure who admitted it first, but still, I tried harder than normal to admit it. She makes me so nervous, in the best way. I get flustered easily with her. She takes advantage of it at times, but I love it.
3: Orbit - Good Kid
I know I already did a Good Kid song, but this one is too good to skip. To me, it's also somewhat about feeling like you don't deserve to be in a relationship with someone.
"I've been, I've been thinking that I can't quite get enough time on the inside of the cycle that you spin with gravity and dust, I've fallen in-between the planets and the sun, into the orbit that surrounds you"
I can't get enough of the time I spend with Yolanda. She means so much to me. She's the center of universe at times.
"Now the space is filling up, satellites that I can't seem to keep track of, I get the feeling I'm not quite made of the right stuff to float between the rings of cosmic metal love, into the orbit that's around you"
As mentioned before, I'm insecure about feeling that I deserve Yolanda's love. I feel I'm "not quite made of the right stuff." She loves me anyway, but the anxiety is still there.
4: Home - Silvervale
This song has always been sentimental to me. It's about finding a home in the form of someone you love. As someone who doesn't feel like they belong, this is important to me.
"Can you hear me? My hands are reaching, even if you're far away, I feel you next to me. I feel my voice projecting, our hands connecting, as long as you are there, I'm never alone"
This represents the fact that even though we're long distance, I feel like she's here with me in spirit.
"Let's go there, where we can be together, holding me so tightly, a million miles away"
I want to be with her, no matter where we are. I don't care at all where we end up, as long as we're together, I'm happy.
"And I've been searching across the world for this feeling, I finally found it in you, a place that I call home"
I love Yolanda more than anything. For the longest time, I felt like I had no place in this world. She changed that. She helped me feel like I belong here, with her. She's my home.
The world is beautiful whenever you're here, and all the emptiness inside disappears, I never want this feeling to go away, stay with me
When I'm with her, I feel like I'm happier. The world feels a bit brighter. She could help me through the hardest days.
