first && foremost, i’ll start by saying that any unpopular opinion i post is not directed at any of my followers. they are just my opinion, and i won’t hold back. if you feel any type of way from it, feel free to contact me OOC via IM && we can hold a civil convo on it. but like, yo these are my thoughts, && i apologize beforehand if i get preachy or capslock crazy lol.
okay so, wow, hm. what to be salty about.
um okay so something that gets me kinda salty even though i have 0 rights to be salty about it && maybe i’m just a petty ass bitch but characters that are just, very one-dimensional ?? like ‘ah i’m all sunshine && rainbows’ or ‘darkness hello we meet again my good friend’ or ‘ANGER YELLING PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE’ && that’s just, all they are ?? yet even then their attributes are not even portrayed correctly ?? they just, are v flat characters.
&& yes there are a copious amount of flat characters in popular literature today. but flat characters hold some purpose. && even if they don’t, they’re flat characters BECAUSE they are to be in the background && just, lay flat. with roleplaying, i think it’s super important that your characters aren’t flat. or if they are flat, that they are developed into something more dynamic && static throughout the use of roleplaying. headcanons. musings. IN GENERAL.
if your character gets into fights all the time, why is that ?? what about their personality makes them that way. what experiences did they go through where to throw a punch is their first instinct ?? it’s all these kinda things you have to think about while working on your character. && NO CHARACTER IS PERFECT. but to make them interesting && more humanlike, that’s what the goal should be.
but then i guess my unpopular opinion comes in where i see these flat characters getting praised and like, loved upon ?? && like yo i’m just a shady bitch so i’ll sip my tea && keep my peace but i can’t help but think why ?? what’s interesting about them ?? is it something i just can’t see ?? && like, i can’t tell people how to play their characters. always do you. ALWAYS. but idk i just l i k e.
when i read someone’s writing && their character, i should hear a voice. a DISTINCT VOICE LIKE ‘AH’ that’s who they are. this is them. that’s their aesthetic mmmf. && if i don’t hear that i won’t want to interact with you. the same way if the main character in a book isn’t appealing or sounds flat, i won’t read the novel.
