do you have any advice on how to start out on editing your theme? Ive always been so confused by it and so ive never developed my blog beyond the starter?

honestly i was like u at the start i had like nothing but text bc i was new to tumblr and i couldn't figure anything out

Definitely start with basics, what colour you like and what elements.
For me i knew i wanted brown and i liked lace so i just went with that
Some just go with certain aesthetics or maybe characters, def find something you like!
next, for colourful text to match your colours use

When making a post, click on the three dots/settings for it and change the text editor to HTML
and then copy paste the code in it!
Nowww.. for banners, i only recently started making them too
But i use canva! (web)
I use the ready tumblr banner template
And then you can just edit and add images as you like!!
A helpful website to get clean/transparent backgrounds for stuff, for example for these banners i have made

Besides that, def find some divider creators you like :)
im picky so i use a bunch
