#TheChaser is (loosely) based on South Korean serial killer Yoo Young-chul, who murdered 20 women & elderly bourgeois people in Seoul between September 2003 & July 2004. He killed his victims mostly with a hammer, then dismembered the corpses, burying most on the grounds of the Bongwon Buddhist Temple. Yoo hated women & the rich, but he was also a repeat criminal of other heinous crimes. He is currently in prison, awaiting execution, but South Korea hasn't actually executed a prisoner since 1997 (though the death penalty is still permissible by law).
