I know someones inevitably gonna try to dig up something problematic about Yorhel because this hellsite always does that when someone dies. but I want visual novel fandom to know that without Yorhel, you would not have western vn fandom as we know it
Visual novels in the west 20 years ago were a vague, incredibly niche concept. We knew they existed and we envied Japan for having things like Amagami on the ps2 or Evangelion Girlfriend of Steel on the Playstation. But like...unless u knew Japanese or some random fan group like Asenheim Project popped up with a translation like the angels they were, chances are ur experience with vns were either dating sim shitposts from newgrounds or hard to find games on deviantart.
And then this random nerd in 2007 created VNDB and suddenly we knew so much. The first proper damn database for visual novels and it was beautiful, goddamn it. The popularity of vns spread rapidly because we had KNOWLEDGE. Official translations, fan translations, fan made games, etcetera.
Its been the same looking site for 20 years. And now the creator of it is dead and I am mourning.
