Maybe the reason why yotsuba Light and pre-kira Light is so vastly different in personality (he's more 'genuine' that is) is because yotsuba Light had L that kept him from feeling that mind-numbing boredom that pre-kira Light experienced prior to getting the death note.
Pre-kira Light literally had nothing to keep him entertained and that he was too powerless to change the broken justice system, so he's more closed-off and serious, literally just living through the motions like a dead man.
On the other hand, yotsuba Light met someone who's not just on par with his intelligence, but also one insufferable enough to annoy him that never made any dull moment possible with L around. Aside from that, yotsuba Light is literally working alongside the world's greatest detective helping him solve the world's hardest case that involved the justice system, so yeah, yotsuba Light really will take L's side of "justice" because detective L is legal whereas Kira's actions are not.
Would Yotsuba!Light Yagami become Kira?
Yes, they'd kill people who go against their values
Yes, they'd kill people who personally wronged them
Yes, they'd kill people they generally dislike
Yes, they'd kill to obtain some sort of personal benefit
Yes, they'd kill random people
Only if someone else convinced them to
They'd only kill one or a few people, then stop
No, killing would go against their values
No, they'd find it too risky
No, they'd just have no motive
No, they'd prefer to kill with their own hands
they make me do pushups in drag
just gonna take a moment and say that no death note! light and kira! light are still the same person. i think you guys missed the whole point of the yotsuba arc (metaphorical you). light had his ideologies before the death note came into his hands, and he still believed in a world where all criminals have to receive punishment no matter what. he still believed in capital punishment for any criminal excluding the cases of killing to defend yourself (which i still have to refresh my memory on because i’m too tired to pull out my manga rn, but when mikami started to announce that crimes not intended to be committed will count too, light had a problem with it) and was raised by a cop who very much likely thought in the same manner as “all crime can be prevented and those who commit crimes are bad and wrong and they are definitely not victims of their surroundings”. the difference between yotsuba/pre death note light and kira light was that kira light killed people. him killing two people left him with irreversible trauma which kickstarted his descent into kira. had the death note never come into play, i very highly doubt light would actually take the time to kill people with his own hands in the name of justice. i also think that’s a factor with light. even though it Definitely counts as killing someone, and he experienced the same guilt and horror from killing two people, the death note in his pov isn’t direct. it’s divine punishment, something that doesn’t have actual blood on his hands. if light needed to go and snipe a criminal or stab one to go further with his plan, not only would it be ineffective in the long run, it wouldn’t have enabled the amount of thought and dedication he put into his ideology. he started with the worst criminals. if he started to kill like beyond birthday, we would have a number of holes in his character and even more holes in the story. yotsuba light may have been innocent, but he did not have an innocent mindset. kira light fed into it and let it fester and grow. they are the same people. yotsuba light was basically light tearing his own self apart.
yotsuba!light gives me cuteness aggression like no other but instead of biting him I lock him in a cage with l for the rest of their lives. good luck boys you're here forever -omgv anon
NO SERIOUSLY HE’S SO MOE IT’S ABSURD. some insane sauce went into making yotsuba light with his stupid big glossy deer eyes and his open earnest expression and his pretty boy swag somehow made pure and innocent by the lack of evil manipulation associated with it. he says ryuzaki!! the same way teenage girls call their boyfriends. he wears every emotion on his sleeve. his face occasionally scrunches up like a cat. he starts fistfights that he can’t win. it’s all so so so so cute and I need to bite clear through his femur about it
Yotsuba Light Complete Face Collection
Not the complete collection, but I believe that most of his important expressions are here. Someone just had to gather all his precious faces into one wholesome post, of course.
