I've been listening to The Awakened Family on audio book and it's one of those books that sort of punches you in the gut. I've always tried really hard to be a mindful person. My marriage was not a walk in the park and I still experience so many physical responses to triggers (think, panic attack and surges of fear and anger which can lead to lots of catastrophizing). I love how she talks about how children are never - in and of themselves - our triggers. It's not their fault our "self" feels threatened, assaulted, terrified. I can't force my tiny three year-old to be anyone but himself and - as his mom - it's my imperative to consistently call out his goodness. To show him he is seen, heard and known. “Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
