Challenge Ask: Daryl has told both Rick and Carol that him and Beth were out there for a while. Of course we didn't get too many scenes of them together. So using your imagination and theories from TD, what else do you think happened between them after the prison fell? #BringBackBeth2019

So, here’s the thing. I often struggle to fill in the gaps of a show with canonical ideas or information. I’ll try, though.

So first, imagine how many freakin walkers they obliterated through in their time alone. Every single one of those experiences could have turned life or death in a moment. That, alone, would bring you together emotionally.

Ultimately, though, I think a lot of fanfic writers (maybe myself included) have it correct. During their time together, they more than likely taught each other everything they knew. As we saw, Daryl was teaching Beth to track, hunt, and use his crossbow. This means he had to be in her personal space, and she in his, regularly. Beth taught him to have hope and positivity in everything.

I think they shared things about their lives that no one else knew. I think he did open up about his childhood and she opened up about hers. I think they discussed some of their deepest fears; Beth sharing first to inspire and encourage Daryl to do so. I think he let her in his head; he showed her his process of thinking, of analyzing every room and situation.

I think they had moments of silence, but they were comfortable, and that she probably hummed or sang for him quite often, especially when she tired of the silence. Let’s face it, Beth was social; she’d tire of the silence faster than Daryl would. However, we also know that Daryl yearns for the social aspect and would break the silence too.

I’d bet that they sassed each other, too. The level of teasing they had in what we saw showed such comfort and familiarity with each other. They sassed and smartassed each other before. I’d bet it wasn’t regularly, but just to keep her smiling or to keep him on his toes, they did.

I’ll bet that they stepped on each other’s toes, too. Beth might have asked or pointed out something too sensitive and made him the quiet, angry man we’d see occasionally. She learned to read his body language, as he did hers. Daryl might have said some brash things that bristled her temper.

Like any relationship in the beginning stages of blooming, they learned from their mistakes. They learned how they meshed as friends, and more, and they fell into the pattern and rhythm of a relationship. They just didn’t fully know it was happening, yet.

So yeah, there is more I could write (I am a fic writer, after all) but I think this was a good start to my thoughts and feelings on it. Idk.
