Has their ever been a slave of Milton's that was ostracized by the rest?
Of course. They are not a group of friends. They are a group of competitors. And most of them aren’t there voluntarily. Milton enjoys the little fights and cruelties and competitions among his slaves, and he subtly (and not so subtly) encourages them. So naturally, some of them will escalate. And occasionally a slave joins Milton’s collection who is just a little too different, a little too rebellious or a little too well-liked by Milton. Or simply refuses to fit in.
Vadim is one example, although it is half voluntarily.. He is quiet and different, and he withdraws after his friend Tristan drifts away further and further into corruption under Milton’s guidance. He doesn’t make more friends after that and prefers to be on his own. Which makes him a loner and an outcast within Milton’s harem. That he used to be a prince or that Milton still considers him one of his favourites doesn’t make him any more popular among his fellow slaves.
In the end, each of them fights for themselves. Bullying and cruelties and ostracism are naturally a byproduct of this fight.
