it hasn’t been long. he was still adjusting to all the changes. this gwen? that wasn’t new news anymore. she’d become a friend to him, even though her very existence reminds him of the guilt he’d felt. but she had her own guilt. and they sort of bonded over it. able to remind each other that they weren’t just what their guilt said they were.
but the other changes? oh, those were harder and harder to deal with. the hyperawareness. the thirst. that one was the hardest. he can get used to not being in the sun. he’d adjust to his new senses. but that thirst? he’ll never get past it.
and right then? he was thirsty. he could hear her heart beat, hear the blood pumping through her veins. it had him on edge. and he couldn’t tell her. he knows she’d never have approved of his decision, but it was that or die. and he chose life.
