Torontonian here - I too am not sure why we keep the traditional building while mashing modern architecture on it but it's a pretty popular technique especially for condo developments to keep the face of the previous building (so that we don't lose our past architectural history I guess??) while making the inside modern and adding levels.
Melbourne to some extent does it but like, we don’t mash it together so it looks like buildings are being absorbed???
ANYWAY I look forward to seeing it for myself in June XDDD
