I have no idea if anyone is still reading this but, just in case, I’ll draw your attention to this...(in the unlikely event you’re not already aware).
Steve Pringle’s first major creation was “The Fall In Fives”, in which he allowed a randomiser to put every song ever recorded by The Fall into groups of 5, which he then blogged about and reviewed in those groups. Once this was done, he plopped on the ol’ thinking cap and elected to devour the Fall’s catalogue in a different way - he was going to cover every release. All of ‘em. Live albums, compilations, limited edition CD singles, the lot. he named this “You Must Get Them All”, after John Peel’s 2nd most famous quotation about the group.
The blog was an absolute delight and acquired an impressive following, including several ex-members. I loved it - YMGTA was also a relief for me on an individual basis. Someone was doing it *properly*. And not just properly, brilliantly. When compared to what I did over here, I felt like a 4 piece guitar band hearing “Revolver” in 1966 - I was redundant but in the most glorious of ways.
The blog is now a book which is due later this month by mail order and in store come the autumn. This is shaping up to be the tome Fall fans deserve; a complete overview from an articulate, critical fan. Pringle is neither a sycophant nor an apologist but he is both an enthusiast and a fan - you can tell from the writing that he loves The Fall like no other. The book is said to be different from the blog in some respects and this seems normal; you can’t embed a YouTube video in a book. But what’s clear is that it will be roundly based on the bog and will therefore share its insight, its careful factual research and its keen ear. You can order it here - http://www.route-online.com/all-books/you-must-get-them-all.html
In the meantime, I await my own copy with no small excitement.
