Jiufen/Choufien Village Tour. Jufien in the Ruifang District of New Taipei City was once a tiny, mountainside village of copper and gold miners and their families during the time of the Japanese occupation of then Formosa. Now, it is a bustling and busy hub full of tourists who cram the never ending stone steps of the village. It is chockfull of tiny shops littered left to right with numerous items such as foodstuffs, souvenirs, tea, gadgets, and other novelties. Jufien is a must-visit if you are to visit Taiwan, but it is highly recommended that you go in the spring or summer as the winter weather there gets wet, rainy, chilly, and (brrr) freezing!
