Fellowship of the Pranksters: The aging process of Peredhil (an impossible science)

The twins age differently. As peredhil, they physically age about in between the rate of men and elves. Mentally, they age at their own paces.

In FotP, they’re about 16 years old chronologically which, for a fully elven child, is about three or four. For a peredhil however, that’s about 6 or 7 years old. So physically, the twins are young children.

Their mental age is a whole nother can o’ worms. Elros ages more quickly than his physical body. In the story, he’s about the same maturity level of a younger teenager. He’s in that angsty, everybody-is-horrible-and-stupid phase. Which is really trippy when you find yourself getting yelled at by a six year old and you have to not laugh.

Elrond on the other hand, ages more like a regular elf. His mental age is about 3 years old which, of course, leads to people talking about him behind his back thinking he’s “mentally challenged”. As developmental disabilities are incredibly rare among elves, there has been very little research done on them and no one really knows what to think of them. Even though Elrond doesn’t have any sort of disability (although I might change that, autistic!elrond could be interesting), people talk about him like he can’t understand them. Most of the time that he doesn’t know what they’re saying is because they’re speaking Quenya.

Anyways, can we talk about how young Elrond is simultaneously a total cutie, babe, and hottie all at the same time??? Like initially I didn’t think any of that, but then there was that scene where he was digging with Durin and he’s like sweaty and sweetly smiling and laughing and I was like “ohhh????!!!??? He’s kinda really attractive???!!!???”

And like you know when he’s sitting, leaning back against the rock, one arm hanging over his bent leg?? Like yeah, how could I not fall in love with someone if they looked at me like that during casual conversation???
