‘‘ good --- afternoon, miss. ’’ yes, it  was  after noon, a quick glance at his wristwatch confirmed as much and it caused a trace amount of frustration to spark inside of him. ‘‘ i was here . . . thirty minutes ago, looking for freya --- she’s my cousin. i was told she left for lunch? is she back by now? ’’

There were still things he needed to tell Roxy ( and her mother ) but they were awkward and heavy things and neither of those felt like they needed to be addressed just then. It didn’t help that the kid was an absolute joy to be around, bright and cheerful that Mark simply didn’t have the heart to break that spirit. If he was even correct anyway.

the gods fay did not believe in were cruel indeed, the blonde pondered as she stared at the table in front of her. or maybe she was losing her touch and this was why the things that happened in her life had been getting increasingly unbelievable and had started to hit closer and closer to home. sitting on one of the best tables the roque had to offer, the immortal wondered if she could die and therefore escape if she would force herself to stop breathing for long enough.

because while she was not openly feuding with freya anymore, waltzing in the other’s restaurant did not strike her as a particularly wise idea. but dion had asked her to tag along as he was writing about the restaurants the city had to offer and free food had always been an easy way to get a spot in fay’s busy schedule.

but though she would have thought that this would have been all --- that she was accompanying dion to a restaurant ran by someone who had had a hand in her most recent death --- fate proved that it could do even better. because the face of the waitress was all too familiar and at this point, fay wanted to throw the towel and QUIT ------ because this evening was DOOMED.

ignoring dion for a moment, the immortal gave a tired wave and tried a smile, the effort falling flat as so often. ❛ roxanna, hi, ❜ she greeted with a vaguely friendly expression on her face. ❛ you work here now? ❜ in the restaurant run by your mother’s ex-girlfriend, not that you’d know about that?

"Bea, I am emotional over a video game that came out in 1997." Roxy said in lieu of a greeting. She just finished Final Fantasy VII and completed all side quests and all super bosses. Between work, spending time with friends, it took her quite a while but she did it. "Did I beat the game or did the game beat me?" ------ sent by @youngforevr​

slipping out of her shoes and leaving them beneath the couch table, beatrice nodded slowly. there was no expiration date on certain works --- it did not matter when they had been created, they would always be a punch straight to the gut. auburn would always cry over some books, no matter how many times she had read them. and really, beatrice understood; she was not the type to cry easily  ( it made her feel small and childish ),  but she did feel very emotional during certain songs.

‘‘ i'll say to you what dion says whenever he takes me to a modern adaptation of a greek play --- good stories are eternal, so it’s perfectly understandable to feel like the game beat you, i guess, ’’ she said as she stretched out on the couch, wincing a little as her legs remembered that they were sore from the dance class she had had two hours ago. tomorrow, she would feel nothing, but today, she did.

she had never really gotten into video games --- when she had last had the time to immerse herself in this form of entertainment, her hands had been in a sorry state, and everyone knew how much it frustrated to be bad at something, especially at something that was meant to be fun.

sitting up and wrapping her arms around her left leg, she raised an eyebrow at roxanna. ‘‘ before i forget and you disappear into another game-shaped wormhole --- felix texted me that theresia did tell him to ask us whether or not we'd like to go ice skating with her this weekend. afterwards, she suggested we could stroll over the christmas market and get something to eat, ’’ beatrice said, trying very hard to sound casual despite the way her other leg bounced on the couch and the light redness in her cheeks that was not the result of the cold outside.

@youngforevr​  sent  →   in her hands was a a neatly wrapped book, a compliation of angela davis essays. she was sure that fred probably had something like these already, but this one was one of a kind because delia printed it and had it covered and everything herself. on the outside was a happy birthday card; complete with a doodle of fred on the inside. "bonne anniversaire, Frédéric. please forgive my use of french, however appropriate."

‘ ‘ ah, miss asphodel, ’ ’ he greeted as he poured himself a cup of coffee. his job came with many benefits, but the fact that no one said anything when he lived off coffee and cold tea was definitely one of the bigger perks. another big perk? his colleagues. it had been a while since he had last worked in what he perceived to be an environment conductive to his personal growth. ah, and there was the unbidden reminder that the last time he had, as the kids would say, thrived had been when they all  --- seth and marcus, bri and lena --- had been in paris together.

fuck, that thought was way too depressing for his birthday, he decided as he made a grabby hand motion towards the gift. he had gotten the expected cashmere sweaters, wine and gift cards from freya, but he had no idea what asphodel had gotten him --- had not even thought she would get him anything. absentmindedly, he vowed that he would find out her birthday so he could repay the kindness in, well, kind. maybe she would enjoy a vacation?

accepting the gift, he grinned widely. ‘ ‘ i don’t mind to hear my language, ’ ’ he replied as he carefully opened the gift. an essay compilation was always welcome in his bookshelf, especially one as prettily bound as this one. ‘ ‘ ohhh~ this is just perfect, ’ ’ he hummed as he traced the lettering, his head then snapping upwards to look at his colleague. ‘ ‘ are you okay with hugs? because this is a hug-worthy gift. ’ ’

"oh my!" roxanna smiled down at the dog and then up at the owner. "your dog is adorable! sorry---er. i got excited." as was often the case for her when approached by an adorable animal. "what's their name?" she paused and laughed again. "sorry. again for my bad manners. i'm roxanna."

‘ ‘ —it’s fine, it’s fine … puzzle here shouldn’t get this excited just because we meet nice new people everywhere, ’ ’ brigid replied quickly before she whistled softly. it took a moment, but puzzle settled down at her feet despite the abundance of energy that was stored inside of her today. ‘ ‘ i think she’s very excited about the weather. and the new route. ’ ’

the same could be said for brigid, too. winter weather had always been a favourite for her and this was almost picture perfect, and thus the walks she took puzzle on had become increasingly longer and she was getting curious about the city as whole as opposed to staying in the corner where she lived and worked. ‘ ‘ i’m brigid, and i don’t mind — i occasionally get very excited about animals as well, ’ ’ she introduced herself with a light shrug. ‘ ‘ if you want to and she’s up for it, you can pet her. she’s a darling. ’ ’
