( tw: blood/gore )
he is covered in blood with a heart in his hands. it isn’t poetic, no heartbroken, tortured metaphors-- all literal, all grisly gore and necessary demise. if he was more deranged a vampire, with more self-serving priorities, he might take a bite of it, but he isn’t. instead, he tosses it back to the dead body of the wolf to whom it belonged, for his pack to find and mourn, unless he was alone. his alpha bore as much responsibility in this as kijung did, or, well-- some of it, at least.
kijung can never stay out of a fight that isn’t fair. there he is, always fighting for the underdog, and there he was, fighting a feral werewolf on the full moon for the sake of one. he was just a human, seemingly innocent, wrong place at the wrong time in a fight he was certain to lose. just as certainly: kijung should’ve minded his business. maybe he should’ve let the beast sink its teeth into his flesh-- let him die or become a werewolf himself. maybe he should’ve prioritized safeguarding the secret of his true nature over becoming a knight in shining armor.
he didn’t want to be a hero. he didn’t want any acknowledgement. he just couldn’t stay out of a fight that wasn’t fair. (it didn’t feel right to let a human die when he could do something about it. throughout his life, he was powerless to save too many.)
he rubs his bloody hands on his pants to little avail, all of his clothes sufficiently soiled, and it’s then that the pain really sets in. kijung, too, is a little beaten and bruised, and while he’ll heal, it was the hardest he fought in years. in another universe, if he believed they existed, he might be the lifeless creature without a heart instead, both vampire and human lost to the abyss of gnashing teeth and wild instincts.
he just looks at the human, uncertain of what to say. he’s never one for small talk anymore, nor pleasantries unless they’re required. are you okay is a stupid question, and he doesn’t feel chipper enough to introduce himself just yet. instead, there is a very important matter to attend to.
“you can’t tell anyone you saw this.” if necessary, he does know an incredibly talented master vampire that can take the memory off of his hands. she’s quite a good therapist, too, and he gets the feeling this human will need one of the two after this.
