a scoff leaves merlin’s mouth.   this is something strange yet familiar at the same time.   being bossed about by arthur  ( & never listening half the time )  was once a day to day routine once but merlin’s also been on his own for the past fifteen hundred years.  —— he once complained about this ,  he thinks.  now the corners of his mouth are rising.   it’s amazing how many times he can be reminded how much he missed arthur.                   ❛    you’ve never even celebrated chrismtas before.  how d’ you know what you’re supposed t’ do today ?   —— what if playin’ in the snow is frowned upon today ?  you dunno if it’s something people even do on christmas.    ❜

come in early ,  stay later than needed.   that was merlin’s work schedule.  he didn’t take sick days & he worked holidays.   but for this   ------   he would have left even if they said he would be fired.   his coworkers were shocked when he sprinted back ,  informing them with a half-assed excuse of his apartment flooding ,  then sprinted away without waiting for an answer.   officer jordan was waiting for him as he pulled on his coat & he smiled at the sheriff with a nod telling him he was ready to go.   it was an active effort to make it seem like his heart wasn’t about to leap through his chest.

there the was the possibility of him just having a wishful ,  BEGGING heart.   he hoped it wasn’t.   he hoped his eyes weren’t fooling him when he saw the photo of the strange arrest the officer made last night.   he hoped this wasn’t some sick dream he was about to wake up from.   he had waited too long ,  TOO LONG ,  to be fooled in that way.

walking to the station seemed like seconds.   going back to the detainment cells ,  a blink of an eye.   everything seemed to go so quickly after living so long.   but staring into the one at the end to the man dressed in full chainmail & armor who was cuffed on the cold bench  ------  felt like hours.   hours of only hearing his heartbeat in his ears.                  ❛    ---------  arthur ?    ❜
