Your Servant | Roderick & Brigit
It was almost time. The storm was raging outside, and the guests seemed to be tiring. Soon, soon the messenger would arrive, all unexpected, to give the grievous tidings of the Stafford's uncertain legitimacy. As it was, Roderick bided his time, watching with hooded eyes the sweet dances the tripped, orderly, across the floor, and savoring the hearty rhythm of the drums that brought breath to the listener.
Many guests had been delayed by the ravages of the virulent winter storm which had, of a sudden, descended upon them, but Roderick paid it little heed. More than enough Astairans were arrived to hear the news and bear it outward at the close of the occasion. Indeed, he thought that perhaps by now everyone invited had finally appeared.
Eyes drifting quickly from the dancing, they fell on a particularly unadorned person whose blonde hair had been corralled to presentability only, it seemed, by great effort. Realizing this must be some servant gotten by an attendee, he extended a commanding arm, pointing at her.
"You, there!" he rang out. "Fetch me a goblet of wine. We are parched, indeed."
When it had been brought, he stopped the servant from leaving again. It was good to know the thoughts of even the most common folk, his uncle had lately reminded him.
"Tell me -- what make you of the festivities?"
