6. My muse comes home covered in bruises

Though Cora Mills was a powerful sorceress, at the end of the day, she was only human. And though she’d managed to escape from her attackers, she hadn’t gotten away without sustaining quite a few injuries herself. It had been a gang of thugs, she suspected they’d originally been citizens of Wonderland. Cora didn’t know if they’d acted of their own volition or if someone had sent them to harm her, but either way she’d been vastly outnumbered. It had been impossible to fend them all off.

But she’d finally managed to get away, and now Cora leaned heavily against the door frame of Regina’s mansion, one hand wrapped around her aching side. She stood there for a moment, trying to catch her breath and hoping neither of her daughters were anywhere nearby. She needed time to cover up the damage that had been done, and her children didn’t have to be any the wiser. The last thing Cora wanted was for Regina to find out- she knew how that would end- and she couldn’t predict how Zelena would react.

As it turned out, luck was not on her side.

“Damn,” Cora muttered under her breath, meeting the eyes of her eldest child. “Zelena…”
