What would Gautier be liked in a world where he was able to be raised by his own folks without any nasty dead parents business getting in the way? Both as a kid and later as an adult. Would he still like Trader or Isfet in this world (assuming he would have contact with them at all)?

((OH NO...THIS IS A REALLY GOOD QUESTION.

The short answer is that he'd be an entirely different person.))

For one thing, he'd be a lot better educated about a lot of things. His mother would have had time to impart more than the most basic of lessons on him about survival and he'd have a lot better resources to learn stuff like how to read.

Plus he wouldn't have nearly as bad of issues with concentration from never eating properly to contend with, so he'd have a lot easier time with learning in general. Gautier's a very bright kid who's pretty quick on the uptake so in that situation he'd really have a chance to be better at a lot of mechanical tasks.

Emotionally? He'd be a lot happier and less volatile. Most of his outbursts right now stem from the fact that he doesn't have anyone to teach him how to deal with and talk about his feelings in a healthy way. That's a huge problem when you're an angry baby with no stability in your life that lives in a near-constant state of fear.

Oh, and another that I never get to bring up is that Gautier liked animals a lot when he was younger. He was constantly getting into stuff and trying to play with any critters that weren't big enough to eat him. As he's gotten older he's become more paranoid about how dangerous they could be to him and doesn't want anything around that could eat any of his food, buuuut...I could see that...not so much being a thing in a world where he had his parents. He'd probably adopt everything in the wasteland as a pet.

I guess what I'm getting at is that he'd be a sweet, reasonably normal kid who didn't have to deal with even an ounce of the paranoia and instability that makes up his life right now.

As far as liking Trader and Isfet? Probably not as much as he does currently. Trader probably would have barely talked to Gautier in the first place since he would have been an annoying, sweet chatterbox running around his parents' heels instead of a tiny Trader-in-training. And Isfet probably would have had an easier time keeping his distance and not talking to him much because he wouldn't have been feeding him and Gautier's mom would have had a shotgun in his face for getting too close to her kid.

I don't think he would have bonded with either of them in the same way at all just because neither would have gotten to know him.))

I believe a far more long-standing (and far better quality) would be Bitter’s Trader and the precious baby.

And Hip’s Gautier and Psy’s Dimi came in about the same time I did and are still active, too!
