When FLEEING is your BEST OPTION...
”Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” 2 Timothy 2:22 (ESV)
I always think that the basis of a person strength is on how he face his fears. If a person can run in the dark even though he is afraid of the dark, then I think that person is strong. Or is it really just me? We all think that way isn’t it?
We also think that strong people are those people who are not afraid of what we are afraid of. ”That person can hold that gecko!” (it’s what I am thinking when I saw a guy from Baguio holding a gecko in his hand while I was on a vacation there.) And because of this, we rely on those people. We place our strength on them. We ask help from them.
But the irony is, it’s not always the case. There are things that we should be running away from, because if we face them, we’re doomed. Oh, and most of these running away is not on the physical and mental aspect, it’s spiritual.
Let me reiterate, as it was also said by Paul and I quote:
”For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12”
The battles we face is not just of the physical and mental aspect, most of the time, it’s spiritual. It is in the form of what we call as “temptations”.
You know you are tempted when you know what is right but then something is telling you to do what is wrong. It’s something that is bugging you and constantly telling you to do what God told you is wrong. We have different “pressure points”. Some are tempted financially. Some emotionally, but the most common of all is in the area of PURITY.
So when you are tempted to do something against God’s will, remember stay away from your pressure point. FLEE! If it is talking to someone you like? FLEE! Set standards and limitations. If it’s you being alone in your room with an internet connection. FLEE! There is strength in RUNNING AWAY.
When I am talking about FLEEING, it’s not just running away. (I’ll be using filipino from this point) Ano? Kapag tumakbo ka basta kung saan nalang makarating? Di ganun pre. Tatakbo ka papunta kay God. Takbo ka sa mga taong alam mong matutulungan ka kasi alam mo na sila mismo, dependent kay God. It’s the only option bro. Wag mo nang tangkain harapin yang temptations mo, lalo na yung alam mong hindi mo kayang i-handle na most of the time it leads you to sinning, get help. Magpatulong ka. Minsan kasi talaga hindi mo kakayanin mag-isa.
One last thing: It is not the temptations you have, but the decision you make about them counts.
Sometimes, it’s just a matter of whom you are much fearful of, of whom you will obey or not. Is it gonna be God or the world, the flesh, and the devil?
