Ok so, before we go any further—welcome to YOUTZ! As some of you know, I’ve spent the last year licking my wounds from the breakup of a previous band and reconfiguring my musical direction. Despite having songs coming out of my ears, I’ve been on an endless tour of collaborators and just when I thought I’d put the team together, they bolted. Now, I understand that the current environment I’m in is competitive, tiny and full of completely over-booked, talented individuals. And I completely understand how busy everyone is, BUT while I’m doing all this understanding I’m also frustrated and scared and thrust back about 10 steps in the process of bringing YOUTZ into the world.
It seems like sincere emotions are pretty uncool at the minute, but I was never that cool so fuck it: I’m wrestling with some pretty intense emotions and insecurities at the moment. I’ve got so much anxiety and self-loathing and bravado at work inside me I could fill a children’s wave pool at a mid-size water park. But my god I’m writing good songs and all I want in life is to share them with you! So, if I’ve been unavailable lately, this is why and I’m sorry—but I also have to take this time to be really self-absorbed and prove to myself (again) that I am good and capable and worth it. What can I say? I’m a radical self-actualizer. All that being said, I do appreciate a good cute animal video, or a priceless montage of old dating service videos….(you can watch that gem here)....and if you have any of those to share with me then I’m all eyes!
So, if any or all of this sounds refreshingly frank or relatable to you, by all means follow along. I promise to keep you in the loop as I create a world for us to be self-deprecating AND dancey AND confrontational AND anxious AND cathartic in. Together. You, me and my electric cello: Phinneas.
