2015 & 2016
2015 was really good to me, but I’m very excited for the new year.
Graduated with a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning
Offered an extension with my internship at the Richmond MPO
Started a job with the Hampton Roads MPO as a transportation planner
Actually liking the work I’m doing and the career path I’ve chosen
Having a job located very close to my mom’s house
Still in a great relationship with my girlfriend <3
Her graduating from her Masters program in Elementary Education and already having a job!
Overall, it was an amazing year. Probably the best of my life so far, but there are things that weren’t so great.
Having to pay back a nearly 6-figure student loan debt
Being part of the boomerang generation and living with my mom again so I can pay off this debt
Moving out of the city and back to the suburbs
My girlfriend and I are now in a long-distance relationship
Poor spending habits
2016 will be my first full year of adulthood where I will be working a full-time job and won’t be in school. There are some things in my life that I’d like to improve upon. Being as young as I am and still having a limited amount of responsibilities, I have a few new years resolutions that I will undertake:
Exercise - I was good about it for a few months this year but stopped these last couple months. Also, I need to start doing cardio. I need to set goals and make a plan before the new year
Diet - Living with my mom again isn’t all bad. She cooks for me all the time even though I don’t ask. I won’t be living with her forever so this year I will finally teach myself how to cook. I will start by cooking one thing a week, whether it be a meal, entree, side dish, snack, w/e
Reading - I confess that before mid-2015, I had not read a single book for pleasure since the fifth Harry Potter book. I’ve read a few books this year and would like to continue reading for pleasure
Creativity - I’d like to make a professional website, but with a personal touch. I guess sort of like a portfolio(?) even though I’m not in a creative/artistic industry. I want to show off my professional accomplishments while at the same time showcasing my interests
Spending - Plain and simple, I need to control my spending and follow my budget
Love - Last but not least, my girlfriend and I will be facing the challenges of a long-distance relationship for the first time after being together for over 4 years. I know it will be tough but I believe we can get through it :)
