So, now that the dust has settled and we are figuring out who is who in regards to the Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans news, can I just take a moment to point out that the guy behind the artwork for the manga series Imperial Guards (Koukoku no Shugosha) is the one doing the character designs for this series? At first I was rather “???” at the simplicity of the artwork, along with how expressive everyone in it felt, and then I saw Yu Ito’s name in the credits....and I had a mental backflip a few times before I settled on “FUCK YES!”

This series is one of my favorite underrated gems of seinen manga from the last decade and given how it wasn’t until recently that someone decided to really sit down and scanlate the thing, I doubt the name is gonna mean a whole hell of a lot to people compared to, say, when Sunrise said they were working with CLAMP for Code Geass or Kouga Yun for Gundam 00, but considering the series of misfires this franchise has had recently, it’s kind of cool to see them go with something more grounded and expressive. Plus I feel like given the stuff that is popular nowadays that is grounded, expressive, and all kinds of fucked up ala AoT and Tokyo Ghoul, this has a pretty nice, scalable wall it can climb into the hearts of the ladies.
