Adaptations can be inaccurate in a positive way. Strangers From Hell, the live adaptation of the manhwa Hell is Other People, does a good job of expanding on the themes and character backstories. I truly love this adaptation.
There are two ways to do an adaptation: (1) identify the core themes, tone and ideas and rework the body of the work to fit the soul. Or (2) replace the soul of the work to fit the body, cutting off the fat to make it all fit into the time slot.
ORV adaptation is doing the second one.
DEFINITELY THIS!! i dont think an adaptation needs to follow the original text 1:1 to be good! there's so much you can do to make it compelling as well as faithful to the original without following it to the tee. what i DO think, however, is that the adaption needs to at least LOOK LIKE THEY READ THE SOURCE MATERIAL..?? from what the LA looks right now it just doesn't fit that bill at aaall
the closest thing i can compare it to is 3rd round hsy's SSSSSS-grade infinite regressor and even then it feels like an injustice to her to even compare the two
